to put on a front splitter? I do not really track my car, but do like spirited driving. Don't want to sacrifice handling, etc. So, the car is mostly on the street. Also, what about canards?

Anyone know where to get the GT2 style splitter and canards? Price? Thanks for your help.....Kurt

No, you don't "need" the splitter. However, without the splitter you probably won't realize the full benefit of the wing.

Adding an aero aid to only 1 end of the car will result in an aero imbalance. As you go faster, the back will stick better and better while the front will continue to lift (aero push). It's a relatively safe condition and certainly better than running a splitter alone and getting aero oversteer. You can mitigate some of the aero push by cranking weight into the front of the car and messing with the alignment. Of course, you don't get something for nothing. The added front weight bias and alignment changes will loosen the back end at lower speeds. Just the ticket for those lurid power slides as you pull out of the ******* parking lot.

Do a search for the thread "downforce", we've covered a lot of this ground.

I have a whole list of wing suppliers since I'm planning on adding the complete aero package one of these days. One of my web crawlers found this site a couple of weeks ago. The now have a fiberglass replica of the GTII wing for $1300. This is the only GTII wing in my link collection. If your interested in the others let me know.

The only thing I'd be weary of is the fit to the GTS rear. From the picture they on have the site the one side looks like it has a significant gap. I have seen this gap and/or bad gasket transitions on many cars though so it may just be a function of getting a good seal during install.

This wing is nice but only for looks since it is not adjustable. I'm going with Daytona wing.

I'd say yes. GEN 1 cars get light enough in the front end at higher speeds without a wing. add a wing and it's only going to get lighter..faster. I've read on here before that it is a must have, even with a GTS. Plus they look cool

duh, me just remembered you have a GTS now. Oh well, the front splitter still applies

Chuck, I looked at your pics and it looks like you had the HMS spoiler and you have this one. Why did you change?

Why would anyone add a rear wing first or by itself when the viper is infamous for getting front end light?I just don't get it.Possibly because they want to go SLOWER or look COOL and aren't worried about disturbed handling at speed and a slower car? Bruce

Chuck changed his HMS wing because he got tired of when he went grocery shopping, the old ladies with poor eye sight mistaken his viper for a grocery cart..chuck didn't like that too much and now he went with the picnic bench style wing. He just stays away from parks and baseball games now. I have a picnic bench wing too that Chuck copied me on. Come on Chuck! Get original!

The dude that has ruled at Viperdays Challenge series on street tires for the last 2 years has a 94 RT/10 with a mounted trunk wing and an elevated wing (2 wings) with no front splitter of any sort for downforce. If his front tires are leaving the ground you would not know it by the times he posts.

Hey, it's as good a reason as any.

I fully intend to add a front splitter but haven't had the funds since my addictions. The 18/315 on the fronts stick pretty good, that is when they'er round.

ElDiablo, the previous wing was purely looks. Held on with four 1/4 bolts and a washer for support. Good thing it didn't give any downforce. Take a look at AB Posers post with the babe standing on the wing. Couldn't have done that with the previous wing. It's the same wing I have although he got the Asian discount.

Advice portion.

Gen 1 and Gen 2 advice here is widely different. The GTS+ facia is just one reason. G-2 Hood louvres and NACA are another. Suspension geometry a slight 3rd.

Gen-1 cars get VERY light-nosed above 130mph. Do you exceed that? I dont understand 'spirited' vs SPOOKY! If you add a rear wing, with real downforce, you are asking for trouble on hiway open sweepers in rural areas above 120mph. Fact. You go to turn, and it might NOT. Even the MoPar spoiler can add enuf downforce to lighten the nose a scary amount. You are almost skating. I have convoyed nationwide with these guys. Scary. Adjustable wings are especially SCARY if unbalanced by front aero. Less scary on G-2 cars.

Options: Lower the car - Eibach spring kit about $300.
Side-spliters, combo facia-splitters, or at a minimum canards.

Commercial portion: PartsRack carries wings, spoilers, splitters , even GT2 actual splitters and canards. BEWARE cheap imitations. At 150mph the drag on a wing, (and whatever it mounts to and/or thru) is horrendously strong. Imagine your arm out the window at 150mph....now imagine your arm 3 times as long. We also carry spring perch kits and spring lowering kits. And good advice.

let me put a plug in here too...the dual wing that I bought from Parts Rack has extensive hardware!! It's easy to install (took me 1/2 a day with Chuck's help). I would recommend taking the lower bumper off the back first before you take off the rear fascia. This will reduce any chance of scratching the bumper. It's really not that hard to do.

The wing is strong enough to stand on and it's built tough! As far as looks go...on this board..people will haggle me on it, but in person...man! people love it. It's funny..I get more abuse on this board about it than when people see it in person. I really love the wing, it's functional and I guess I am a part time poser with it, but who cares! The local corvette club here love the wing..they say that it gives the Viper the most aggressive look especially with the rear 335's...of course that is all they see of it. Here's some pics of it.

The girl with the shiney silver things..that is not my car...I wish though! heh!

This statement indicates to me that there is no need for a front splitter. In fact, you will hardly, if at all, notice any benefit of the wing on the street.

The track is another matter.
