I looked at an old thread on this subject, has anyone built/bought a hoist to store the RT/10 hard top, and can you share the lessons learned?

I want to get a hoist type storage versus a rack on wheels
on the floor. Floor space is very limited!!

thanks

Did you get your SoCal Viper Review yet in the mail? There is an insert there with a neat hoist setup.

Edit: Sorry, just noted you are in NorCal so you won't be getting that. I'm not at home or I would scan the ad for you.

I hung mine on the garage wall. 2 'L' shaped pieces of 1" wide flat stock and some 1/4" lag bolts into the sill plate(at 4' in my garage). I wrapped the flat stock with several layers of weatherstripping and then several layers of 33+ tape. I guess I have maybe $5-$10 in it. I cover the top with a furniture blanket. Has worked very well the last 2 yrs.

Here's the sight for the people who were on the insert. It's called Sto'Away. Haven't used them so this is in noway a recommendation. Just something I saw before you posted.

I did mine on the cheap side, but it works.

The insulation tube does touch the weather strip but as it is softer, there is no indentation.

Steve, so from a side view, is this it?

So the top will sit at ~ 10-15 degree angle up against the
wall like this;

So does the weight of the top rest on the trailing edge of the top (fiberglass/SMC material) itself? If so, I am concerned about that.

thanks

Tomer,

Your artwork is fine. That is what it looks like. The angle would be 10-15 degrees. The 'L' brackets are about 14"Lx 12"H. I have at least 1" of foam where the top hits. The furniture blanket is also under the edge. Even the Mopar rack has the top sitting on it's edge. While the angle is plenty, one could always drop a couple bungy cords from the ceiling to the uprights.

When I store the car for the winter, I leave the hard top on the car unlatched--front and back. The soft top goes in the rack. The hard top is only on the rack in the summer so fiberglass and cold temps. are not a factor.

Steve 00RT/10,
I left my hardtop on over the winter with the latches secured.
good idea leaving them open. Will allow for less compression
of the foam which I am not sure matters but can't hurt, will try it next season.

I leave my hardtop on edge during the summer.
sitting on 1/2 inch insulation Styrofoam i had laying around from
some house work.
and i attached the foam to the wall also.
cover it with a moving blanket and keep it secure to the wall with a bungee cord(foam covered)attached to 2 eye bolts.

taking it off the car can be a pain by yourself though a easy to use kit would be nice.
