As I posted before, I'm currently in the process of buying a '94 from Bill P.

One of the things that he's going to take care of before the car is sent out is replacing the head gasket, which I recall him as saying isn't leaking yet, but is showing signs of failing. So I was happy knowing that issue would be taken care of, and taken care of right.

However I got to thinking, if I buy an extended warranty for the car (which Bill P said is still available), why not just have him skip the head gasket work and adjust the price accordingly, and then have the gaskets replaced under warranty if they fail?

Bill said this wasn't an option becuase he had already entered the head gasket as needing repair, and Chrysler probably wouldn't cover them later if they're already in the system as needing repair now.

So should I just **** it up and accept the situation? I just don't want to feel like I'm paying for something I could get covered later.

Thanks in advance for your reassurances. :)

Man, How many sellers would do the above? I'm new here, not familiar with Bill P. Who is he? Seems like a guy I'd like to do business with! If he wanted to replace the gasket prior to anything going wrong, I'd personally have no problems with that. Seems like an exceptional seller.

Bill Pemberton at Woodhouse Viper in Nebraska. He is a very highly regarded dealer on these forums. Mainly for reasons such as what you just noted.

I'm buying my car from him sight-unseen, and because of his reputation on this board, I feel perfectly comfortable doing so.

If your paying more than $37K for your RT/10 let me know. As I have a low mileage RT/10 for sale that already includes the extended warranty until 2007.

My recommendation is for you to go with Bill's recommendation...AND buy the extended warranty for whatever comes up later. The pre-owned Vipers that are sold by Bill P. and Bob Woodhouse are WELL SORTED and always a better VALUE than general market....and we certainly know MANY others who will attest to the fact that the delivered Viper usually exceeds the new owner's expectations( READ THIS BOARD..let me know how many buyers from other sources can say that !!!). Yes, Wife and I have done and will do business with these Guys...just wish we had more $$$ for more Vipers (and more places to stack them).

So what did you get it for...mileage? Transportation costs etc.? Bill sold you a Viper and will deliver it, replaced head gaskets ($2,000 job) for under $37,000? I can't see anyone (especially dealers) selling a low mileage Viper with everything figured in for under $37K....considering the gasket job and transportation too...

It is indeed the red '94 on his site, however I swapped the HREs for a set of stock 18"ers off a 2001 to save a few bucks, as having rims that nice is not a big priority for me.

I know in my head it's best to have the gasket addressed (and addressed by someone who will do a through job on it), I was just temporarily excited at the idea of thinking I found a way to save myself a couple of bucks in the short term.

Don't be penny wise and pound foolish..Get the extended warrnaty immediately and have the head gasket done.

I understand that big time. But in the end you'll be happy having the piece of mind that it is done so you can worry about driving it! Congrats!

Warranty!!! So you don't get stuck later when it does go, best $1500 spent. As a "for example", my 96 had the air Cond. and fuel pump go bad. Cost to replace/fix these two items was over $2000. Ouch, did I say warranty?

So yeah, the warranty is the way to go, which I kinda knew from the beginning. Will probably get whatever I spend on it back if I ever decide to sell anyway.

Thanks all for your input.

Bought a '94 2 years ago from Bill P. They replaced the head gasket, which was under warranty. The guys at Woodhouse work on more Vipers than anyone. I would definitely not worry about it. It's a must do, sooner or later. If you can buy the extended warranty, do it. In afew months mine runs out, and I understand it can't be re-bought at my car's ripe old age.

They also drained/replaced trans. fluid, and rear end. (at no charge)
