Short shifter-MGW (under performance Mods)

Intake-smooth tubes and K&N filters are good enough.

Exhaust-My favorite Belanger headers, Random hi-flow cats, Belanger 3" catbacks.

Should be good for 30-35 RWHP 40 RWTQ

My recommendations: MGW shift knob. They do not make a "shifter". B&M and others make shifters, but many have said the MGW knob is an alternative and should be tried first, and I agree. Don't change the throttle bodies. Just put the K&N's in the stock box and use the smooth tubes of your choice to the stock throttle bodies. Good enough for "intake mods". Exhaust is so much more personal preference. One person's "loud" is another's "quiet". CORSA makes a catback system in 3" which is a great addition. You can do headers of any brand, but many like the Belanger Tri-Y for various reasons. You can use stock cats or hi-flows. The Belanger system with hi-flow cats and their own cat back is perfect for some and too loud for others. My advice would be to go to a club meeting and listen to the various combinations, and then decide. pete the ex glass guy

Congratulations on the new Viper

: I have the smooth tubes and filters installed, along with the Random Tech high flow catz and the 3" Corsa exhaust system. You've heard it

The Corsa isn't too loud, except at WOT

As for the headers, I have heard both the Hennessey and the Belanger headers. Many owners prefer the Belanger headers for some reason. I dont think anybody would highly recommend dealing with Hennessey these days, but if you can get your hands on a set of Hennessey headers from elsewhere, do it!

Also, for the short shifter, there's a short shift modification kit from Ripper I think, and also one from Snake-Oyl. An MGW shift knob works well, without the need to get a short shifter. Try Venumish's RT10, he has the MGW shift knob.

JUVE,
Welcome to Viper Nation. The first and most cost effective mod you can make is to switch to smooth tubes and K&N or S&B filters www.roeracing.com . As far as cat-back exhaust systems, like Red said, go to a club meeting and listen to different systems. I have the Corsa's www.corsaperf.com which look really nice but not real loud.

For shifters, go with a MGWLTD www.MGWLTD.com /Rich Detert www.richdetert.com combo first and see how you like it. You may be happy and stop right there. I have the MGW/B&M setup and very happy with it. To install the B&M without drilling holes in your tranny **** you have to drop the tranny. B&M and skip-shift eliminator can be purchased from www.summitracing.com for $249/$29 respectively or from one of the vendors on this site.

Before you spend your money, make sure you see, hear and feel these mods so you're completely happy with it. AND WHAT EVER YOU DO, PLEASE USE THE Search FEATURE SO YOU DON'T GET CHASTISED BY TONY VIPERMOM.

Good luck and enjoy your new ride.

Juve,

Congradulations on your new Viper. I had a custom made shifter
made, I had the MGW shifter originally, liked it alot, but wanted something more to my shifting style. Now the shifter is available from my Viper tech (all of his customers that are racing have switched over to my shifter style, I posted a picture in the multi media section of this site. I am also getting the B & M shifter kit, I tried out one of the customer cars with this combination and it is really short and quick.

For headers I use TNT headers, beautiful headers and you should check out their collectors, incorporates a pyramid shape where the 5 tubes come together, helps to improve flow.

For exhaust, I have the Borla setup, I like it loud, I have heard the Corsa kit, nice tips, but kind of quite sounding compared to the Borla. However, there is a lot of resonance in the Borla setup, but I am willing to live with it.

Anyway, the best way to check out exhaust packages is to listen to other owners' cars and decide, it is a matter of taste.

The one I saw there was for the F-body/Corvette. I take it it works on the Viper too then? Does it also avoid the light and engine code issue?

THE HIGH-FLOW CAT YOU SELECT CAN HAVE A MAJOR IMPACT ON SOUND.

I went to Viper Days (Mid-Ohio) last week, and listened to many exhaust at the event. I was fortunate enough to get a ride in a '97 GTS car with a Borla cat-back and stock cats. Here's what I noticed:

My car ('98 GTS with 2.5 Corsa and High-Flow cats - Sean Roe Ovals) sounded much louder than the '97 GTS with Borla and stock cats. My car sounded louder than MANY of the other cars with moded exhaust at the event as well, which really surprised me. I can only conclude that whether you chose no cat, stock cat, or different brands of high-flow cats will all have an effect on sound. I did try the 2.5 Corsa with no cat, and it sounded different, but not louder. More choppy, and raspy. I prefer the sound much, much more with Sean's high-flow cat. I read another post that stated the random technology high-flow cats were much quieter than Sean Roe's, but no first hand experience.
