I am in the process of trying to determine what performance mod to do next. I have a 97 GTS that has filters, tubes and Borla cat-back. I plan on adding high flow cats and am trying to decide whether to add headers or 1.7 roller rockers at the same time (have only a limited budget for Viper upgrades, and even less if the wife finds out

Anyone know the HP gain in headers vs. roller rockers? Also, any thoughts on the subject is greatly appreciated!!.....Kurt

I would hardly consider myself an expert on the subject of modifications, but from what I have gathered, you will see little if any gains by adding the roller rockers without already having the above mentioned bolt-ons. A '97 with your mods along with a good set of headers will produce somewhere in the area of 450 RWHP without cats, a little less with high flows. That will be an increase you can feel. After opening up your intake and exhaust, then you could consider others mods such as roller rockers, etc.

Kurt....if it came down to either headers OR changing the rockers, I would go for the headers, especially if you are going to do the high flow cats. Makes sense to do the entire exhaust system at one time. Then, later, if you wanted the rockers you could do that mod by itself. Yeah? I also think there would be more to be had in the HP dept. with the headers. pete the ex glass guy

I agree with pc and red98. Headers will give you more than roller rockers. I'd also recommend adding High Flow Cats, you will loose a few hp, but you won't have to worry about smelling gas fumes. Also without Cats, your car may be obnoxiously loud. Of course, everyone has their own opinion on how loud is too loud. I have Belanger Headers/Cat Back with RT High Flow Cats and I think it sounds just right, some would call it too loud.

Roller rockers are premature unless you have the headers.
If you plan on putting the car on the track, roller rockers will help in reducing oil temp.

Tell us more about what activities you plan for the car - auto cross, open track, street only.
The board has been there and done it all - you will be surprised by the consistency of opinion once we know your intention.

Kurt,

As the others stated....headers. I put Belanger headers on mine and love the sound and what seems to be more horsepower.

Since you have the Borla cat-back I would go with the Bolra headers to keep your system matched.

Bolra headers seem to be some of the best priced.
