Anyone replace their headlight bulbs for better light? I am looking to upgrade, but I don't want to spend $500+ for the HID lights. I am looking at the PIAA?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I replaced mine with PIAA Extreme White Plus and made a big differance. They are DOT approved. I Switched both High and Lows. Here is the part number:
Twin Pack 19615
Bulb Type 9005 (HB3)
Wattage 60w = 120w, 4000K

I installed the PIAA bulbs 3 years ago. Looked much brighter than stock until I got the SRT. The HIDs make the PIAA halogens look like Model T lights.

Looking to do this also with the Sylvania Silverstars. They show only one part # (9005SB) for the Viper. The service manual shows two bulb styles Low=9005, High=9011. Do the same type of upgraded bulbs go in each socket? I would have thought they might be different

The factory uses 2 differant style bulbs but the Piaa's go right in and work fine. I know it is confusing, aftermarket books all show the same for high and low even though the manual doesn't.

You can buy bulbs in pretty much any wattage you want. They are cheap although not dot approved.Late nineties Dodge rams had the worse headlights in the world.Found a bulb with about 10% more wattage than stock high beams and worked up watching out for melting bezels and wires.I ended up with 80w low and 100W high.No problems after several years and did I say they are cheap and light up the area in front of you like never before and don't even blind anyone. My guess is that stock wattage plus 10 should be no problem. Then keep an eye on it and work up.Yes I tried everybodys expensive same wattage expensive bulbs and made very little difference. So who's going to try to work up the wattage first? Liteswap,
Why do you suggest the Silvania's over the PIAA?
I've already ordered the PIAA and paid for em. Did I make a mistake?
Hissses,
Any problems with heat (yellowing or melting) and the PIAA 9005's?
Thanks guys

I have had no problems at all. No yellowing or heat problems with the connectors/wires. Just nice better lighting. Working out fine.Would like HID's but a bit to pricey at this time.

Hissses,
Thanks, that's what I was hoping to hear.

The guy I was ordering from told me a horror story about a Porsche owner melting the **** out of his lenses because he went to a bulb that was too hot.

Eric,

The HID kit arrived yesterday, and I'm just waiting for my mechanic to install them.

It doesn't actually look like much of a task to install the HIDs, it's just that he has some other mods to do and I'm going to have him do everything at the same time.

Pics and impressions will follow.
