OK guys,
After being at the dealership for almost a month getting the recall completed and some warranty work done(fuel pump and A/C). The tech calls and says the drivers door will not open, not with the handle or with the popper. I go down to look at it and we determine that it is stuck in the locked position. I think the problem is in the latching mechanism, but since the door is closed we can't get to it. I don't want to start having to jump in the car like the Dukes of Hazzards, any ideas?

Nearly imposible to take it off with the door closed. The panel would have to be torn up. I don't want to go that route yet. I think the locking mechanism is just jammed, but not sure how it will get unfuc... well you know.

Did you add door poppers to your car or are you talking about the outside door button? If you have an outside door button, you have a emergency release handle opposite that button [inside], if you added door poppers your SOL.

Does the passenger door open. If not, it is probably the fob or battery.
Emergency manual release is behind the front window glass next to the head rest. Open the hatch, and pull it to open the door. Should pop right open. If not...probably the latch, but kind of doubt it.

FIrst of all, it's a '96 right? They did not have outside door handles yet....slide the window back and open from the inside. BUT, if it does have aftermarket door poppers...one may have failed, but both? Dumb question...but it isn't just locked, is it? I know that I used to lock the doors on my '94 to keep kids out of the car at shows.

Matt, you're right! No door handle or button. The right side opens just fine. The 96 was the last of the Gen I, no windows just snap in windows.

Wildude, so sorry to hear about this one...Do let us know when you get it resolved (best of luck on that!!)...

I don't think you can get a slim jim into our doors to try to move the mechanism...Does the speaker grille come off seperately? I know I am reaching now (no pun intended!!!)

Mike,
How about the override handle on the inside of the door? [Upper inside rear of door] If that dosen't do it, looks like it's the Dukes of Hazzards for you.

Oh Chuck,
Thank goodness, how are you? Override handle on my 96 R/T?! Never knew there was one of those. I don't recall seeing one, are you sure? Actually I went on vacation and this dealership has like two mechanics, one of which is a Viper tech and the only one for 200 miles. He's done right by me, but this one stumped both of us.
