Hey everyone,
I need some help, I am trying to get the center bezel and tunnel cover off to install a new readio, but it seems to hang up in the center by the lighter and fog light switch. Are there just snaps holding it on? I don't want to force it and possibly break something. ANy info would be appreciated,

Mike

Mike,
To remove the radio bezel as I recall you have to remove the lower instrument panel fascias. They are held on with six screws. Then remove the ash tray and underneath it is a screw. Remove it. Then slide both seats all the way back and there are 2 screws that attach the tunnel. Remove them. If you want to remove the tunnel completly raise the parking brake as high as it will go and slide the boot off the brake lever. This will give you access to the shift knob attaching nut. Just loosen nut and then unscrew shifter. Disconect wires to lighter and togle switch and remove console. To remove the radio fascia just pry out gently with a flat blade screw driver. hope this helps. Good luck.

Mike,

If I hadn't lent my digital camera to some one, I send you some pictures.

The bezel on my 97 GTS was only snapped and velcrowed in place(No Screws):

There are two Velcro fasteners towards the rear of the bezel (Behind gear shift boot and ash tray. )

There are six other snap connectors: Two at the top of the bezel. Two at the sides of the radio, and then two in the middle of the bezel piece between the ash tray and shift boot. (One of these is right where you describe it.) I was worried I would brake my bezel when prying those last two snap connectors apart.

Good Luck!
Paul

Thanks guys,
got it off and the radio installed. I just was sure if I was doing it right and the service manual isn't real clear about the clips and velcro. It helps to have practical experience on the subject. I know I should probably start a new thread, but I have one more question regarding the brand of oil used in the tranny. I know most like to use Castrol Syntorque, but in my area there is none to be had and I don't want to buy a case for something I'll change every three years(3000 m/yr). Do you think Mobil 1 synthetic would be alright to use? I can get my hands on that stuff. I am probably being a little anal about this, but it is my Viper.

Do NOT use Mobil 1 synthetic trans oil! As I remember, it's not compatible with the syncros plus it will void your warranty.

Use the correct Castrol Syntorque which is available directly from PartsRack / Jon B. by the quart. You'll need 4 quarts, plus one for backup.

Thanks Ron,
I'll only put in the syntorq, just thought that if it was synthetic then it would work just as well.
