Are you looking for stopping power or looks?

Drilled rotors will not impact stopping power. Pads can, but that link doesn't even say anything about the pads other than "premium ceramic". I personally would stay away.

Looks? Well cross-drilled look cool... and the right pad can reduce brake dust and keep your wheels looking a lot better... Still, I personally would not buy that particular ad.

Nothing wrong with being thrifty, but when I see an ad for 4 rotors and pads for the price of a good set of pads, I figure it is one of two things:

1) they are good products but totally unknown, so they have to use pricing to get into the game, or

2) they are junk and will destroy your car.

Why not buy them and let us know how they worked for you?

stay away from them, i will tell you there is a good company on ebay for rotors around the same price, from my research they make the rotors for stoptech (they supply the blanks and stoptech slots them with their own design), i am not going to mention them out of respect for the vendors, you can buy them from ebay with little or no support if something is wrong or spend a little more and get brand name with their unique slot design with good customer support and knowledge, you have to be super careful IMO if you are going to buy rotors on ebay

yeah, I wish the Viper were like the vette in one way...

I could by OEM rotors from Napa for $25 a piece. For track work they were perfect. If cooled correctly were not prone to cracking and when there were worn just toss 'em... they weren't pretty but were fantastic track pieces.

I'm sure they'd be fine pulling on and off the trailer for shows.:)

They may be good, maybe not....absolutely no way to tell from the info provided. Odds are against them being good though.

In cross-drilled rotors, the metallurgy is everything. I'll see if I can scare up pix and post them next.

Here's a pic of what happened to brand new EBCs after one day of hard braking (4 20 minute sprints)....remember EBC is a reputable brand not a Chinese knock off product:

Rotors_008.jpg

And here is a Porsche Motorsports rotor after 3-4 weekends of hard braking. Obviously the metallurgy and dimensions are different (so is the frikkin' cost:crazy2:) but there are no cracks or other compromises to the piece.

Moral of the story, do what you're doing....research the product for the intended purpose and you'll stand a great chance of getting what you want.

I would stay away from any product that you can't get comparative data on....

I'm glad DrumrBoy posted those. There are so many misconceptions about cross-drilled rotors and a lot of misleading advertising.

A set of x-drilled that will last you on the track for many warmup/cooldown cycles are not going to be cheap.

yea and the EBCs arnt event drilled just dimpled, in theory they should hold up very well compared to drilled, i think drilled are ok depending on your application but it does show you that just because you have a brand name does not mean they are good

i would even put money that the majority of brand name rotors start with uncut blanks from china then are machined to the appropriate radius and slot design in the US

I'm not opposing that bet, I'd loose.

That's why I used $25 napa blanks for my track work... low price, same metal, same source...

Rotors are a disposable item, I could never bring myself to pay $$$$ for them.

Stock rotors for Vipers are cheap, and great for the track. They last great and with a visual inspection after each session are very reliable. They last far longer than those on vettes under race conditions.

Probably get inexpensive take off from Parts Rack or local tuners. The shipping (heavy) in many cases costs more than the parts.

Amazing to me that you would come here for advice, and then ignore everyone's comments, and get what worked for your vetts anyways.

Glad that you will look good for the Summer.

01 Vipers had ABS. Previous years stock brakes did not fare well on the tracks.

If you are going to the road course, consider upgrading your brake cooling and fluids.

For some strange reason I do not feel that this thread will end well.

Paul I think you are confusing the OP happy with me.

I brought my Vette track experience into the thread, I guess I shouldn't have done that. :dunno:

happy, now that you've clarified your usage of the vehicle (no track, very low miles), I think you have nothing to worry about with your purchase, but they're only an upgrade in looks.

Reputable? For the street their pads adequate, for the track they're crap.

And those rotors are a joke.

By reputable I meant known-and-respected-in-some-circles.....as opposed to "Guangzhou Industrial Plant #16" or something like that.:)

I agree that those rotors are crap. Jon B recommended them but they definitely weren't the ticket for me.

BTW, before I switched to those German things, I had good luck with cryo-treated stock rotors. The cryo treating and slotting was about $100 a pair and seemed to make them last considerable longer.

rotors don't age with time :) They wear out.

The only way rotors impact raw stopping power are if they are larger diameter (more brake torque), or are better at dissipating heat and don't deform (two-piece rotors, improved vane design etc.).

Now, better designed rotors and better metallurgy can result in improved longevity...

But if you don't track, and only drive a few times a year, you'll never get the rotors hot enough to matter.

At any rate, do yourself a favor and correctly bed your new rotors/pads so you get the best performance from them you can.
