It just took me 10 hours to take out & replace my transmission! The car only has 11,000 miles on it & it's a 1996. Before I sent the car out to JH I was spraying NOS ( Welch's setup ) & then JH probably beat the pi** out of it setting up the turbo's & Nos. I got the car back last May & by November I had a very hard time going into 4th at the track under high RPM's. I never got to get a good run in to see the full potential of the car. So the car got parked over the winter & I took it out in April 2004 & it got progressively worse until I couldn't get reverse , 4th or 5th. From what I hear the new SRT-10's tranny's are breaking even quicker. I got a rebuilt one with stronger forks. Hopefully this one will last 'cause it was no fun doing this tranny. Then again I'm not the greatest mechanic. So I guess the tranny was the last
" weakest link " I had to upgrade. Hopefully it'll be OK. I didn't get to drive on street yet due to rain today. But I justed wanted to give you all a heads up!

10 hours?! I had Tom Sessions, a Viper Tech, replace one for me with hand tools (i.e., no power tools) in an hour?!

I know on RedSnakes Heffner TT - the tranny let go at the track on the first few passes.

All the power and TQ from the TT's with slicks is going to be ******* any drivetrain.

Jamie,

Glad to hear you got the tranny done. Sounds like you are having more luck than I am!

Looking forward to seeing your ride on the way to Chucks BBQ! You will have to make sure you wait up every now and then for the rest of us in the Slow caravan. :2tu:

Yep, saw him do that tranny at the track, 2-3 hours and he was back on the road! Unbelievable how experienced Jason and John are. If no one knows, the heffner crew were kicking butts and taking names at BG. Jason Heffner and John (his assistant) were there willing to help out anybody in need!

I did my transmission in my 96. Total time start to finish was 9 hours, but I did take my time due this one was my first clutch replacement ever. I need to replace my 99's now and I am confident that it should take me no longer than 5.

Mike

The rain let up for a little & I got to take the car out for a rip. Works like a charm! Shifting is firmer & alot easier than before. The tranny weighs around 120 lbs. Most of my time was fighting the stupid tranny jack I rented. It only went up 3' so I had to do it all laying down. Plus I had to deal with all the xtra lines running thru the tunnel that normally a stock car does not have.
I'll really get to test it out tomorrow on the way to the Millersville University car show. There are no leaks so far. :)
