I was just thinking about the skip shift (the white light that forces you to shift from 1st to 4th) Well anyway, it may be possible to use it to out advantage to avoid the accidental shift into the wrong gear. It already is set up to block the 2nd and 3rd gear during certain low speed shifts. So why can't it be modified to block high speed shifts? Example: disable the 2nd gear slot (whatever you call it) when the speed is over say 85 MPH that way you can't shift from 3rd gear at 100 MPH into 2nd by accident when trying to hit 4th. The transmission already has this feature built into it, it just works at low speeds. It will take some new electronics to make it work (luckily I'm schooled in Electronic Engineering). I haven't looked through the service manual yet. But had anyone ever thought of this before? Is is feasible to do? Anyone have detailed knowledge of how the skip shift operates? I could probably design the electronics and a printed circuit board to make a little kit out of it. Maybe sell it for $100-$200 ?? Don't know just thinking out loud. Sounds like a good idea anyway don't you think? It would avoid engine damage and spinouts, everyone should have one.

I Like this idea. I posted about missed shifts a few months back, Since then I have chaged shifters and have a shorter lever. It's much more precise, but still in the heat of spirited driving, at the price your talking about, I'd be interested. Maybe even some kind of indicator lights to let you know which gear your shifting into would be neat ( like those shift lights for rpm) Let me know what you come up with.

mmmmm...we were contemplating the same thing. A viper tech I consulted thought that maybe a toggle switch could be installed that would lock out 1st using the same functions as the skip shift...he said it would take some "rocket science" but might be possible.

I have gone off a track "looking for 3rd" and finding something else...so I'm with ya...keep us posted.

how would this be accomplished? when your down shifting, hitting the brakes do you really think about looking to see what your speedo is at, or any of your gauges? shouldn't you be looking out the windshield?

Having managed a painful sounding but I think undamaging 4th to 3rd instead of 5th I like this idea very much. Having shifted with my left arm all my driving life its a little difficult to get a perfect right hand change everytime, at least thats my excuse.

Yes you should be looking out the windshield. Thats why an indicator light could be mounted on top of the dash or in that vicinity so you could see it peripherally while looking out
