Recently saw a 99 with a hood crack up front, just to the center of the headlight cutout...wonder if the "old" technique of closing the hood (hands WAY too for forward, near the very front of the hood) may have contributed. The crack on the 99 DID NOT look like the cracks that I have seen on multiple 94's and 95's. The local dealer fixed it for the guy...looks GOOD !!!

Cracks along the front edge/headlight edges of the hood could be caused by the hood and headlight contacting each other. This is easily remedied by adjusting the headlight. (I had to do this on both GTS that I have owned) I have seen numerous Vipers where this contact is taking place. I also have to make a personal comment about this. As much as I love my Viper, it makes me wonder how a $75,000, hand built by "craftspeople" car gets out of the factory with problems like these.

the cracks are barely visible (i can see them) you got to be about a foot or less away to actually see them. theyre between the headlight and center duct, just a couple fine lines in the paint. im wondering if the paint job is botched, its not unheard of. too bad this thing is outta warranty, now i gotta use my harley v-rod fund to fix my d*mn hood. i said it before ill say it again, WHY is it, we cannot make a vehicle both performance and quality? sure dont see any crakcs in my wifes mercedes (then again, i can lap it going in reverse, LOL). someone also said it might be from closing hood? i guess thats a possibility, hope not as i got to open it eventually.

are these actually cracks in the HOOD, or are they cracks in the PAINT? like spider-webbing? I would look for contact with other components causing the hood to change shape slightly. I would think the hood should be resilient enough to bend with contact qand not crack, so maybe it was a bad choice or batch of paint...?

Agree with Matt about hood on headlight issue...though the 99 that I referenced had the crack in a different area. Interestingly, EVERY 01 that I have seen up close, failed the business card test...i.e., one could not slide a thin business card or piece of paper between the medial (toward the center) side of the headlight and the hood...easily adjusted (CAREFULLY) trying 1/4 turns on the rubber bumpers.
