Exactly........the 1996 wheels, RT and GTS, have a visible bead of weld between face and barrel.

If I told about the secret date stamp you'ld be as smart as me!

Do not confuse a smoothe but visible seam with a raised bead of welding.

Steve,

My 5 spoke 97 wheels also have the date stamped on the inside of the wheel. If you are looking for a set of 5 spoke or no someone who is I am selling my 5 spoke polished wheels.

Be careful about assuming that if you have a '97 or later that you have forged wheels instead of cast ones. I have personally inspected 97's that had cast wheels on them. And they weren't painted ones, either. So be careful about your 17" 5 spoke wheels - I would strongly recommend that you inspect them carefully to make sure what you really have, particularlly if you are going to run you car in track events.

I would assume that some instances of cast wheels on '97's is due to parts not aligning exactly to the model uear change over from '96 to'97. Other cases are certainly doe to a car not having it's original wheels.

Sorry for the late input but I'm trying to get caught up on my message board reading.
