How does one calculate standing mile MPH based on HP and weight?

I know there is a formula for the 1/4 mile. Is there one that can be used to calculate the standing mile speed taking the Viper GTS drag coefficient into account? Paolo

I happen to know that a basically modded viper will hit just under 180 in the standing mile (wonder who told me that). You have to remember the drag that is coming into play above 120mph due to air resistance. Hell the Venom 800 hit like 192 according to Motor trend. (thats when it dynoed somwhere in the 700hp range). This is a good question Paolo.

=> Tom I once read in an article that a Bone stock Viper has gone 173.3 MPH in the standing mile! A basically modded one does really not go much faster than 175 from what I have heard if you know what I mean. Anyway, I just looked up that article and the Venom 800 was making about 750 RWHP when it ran 137 MPH on slicks in the 1/4 @10.1. It also ran 193.6 MPH in the standing mile with some moisture on the pavement( It always seemed that there was some slight excuse or non-ideal situation that prevented MR. H. from running what he thought he could run in just about every test in every article he was ever in.

I just compare this to Lingenfelter who never says a word and usually runs faster with comparatively less HP. ==> I think Jason Heffner is following the same footsteps as Lingenfelter in that his product has the same characteristics: (Low brag/hype, yet kicks *** like nobody's business!). At VOI, his "lowly" "only" 677 RWHP car ran 10.7 @ almost 135 MPH On Radials. (Probably would have run 137-138 MPH on slicks). His 844 RWHP car ran 10.4 @ 142.2X on Drag radials with a slipping clutch. Compare this to the Venom Twin turbo making 931 RWHP that went 10.2 @ 143.xxMPH. I think they are almost identical in ET and MPH but are 80 RWHP apart! I think the Heffner car could go probably almost 200 MPH in the standing mile. Paolo

i drove my bone stock viper (before my exhaust mods) from a dead stop to 180 mph in less than 1 mile. i topped out in 5th gear at around 5,500 rpm. this is how u calculate your top speed. u drive your car.

I doubt that your stock viper hit 180 in a mile (although it will be pretty close). And as for going out and driving the car, thats not gonna be a problem for Paolo, TRUST ME!!! I think he wants to get an idea of possibly how fast his car is gonna be when he gets it back. Paolo maybe you'll have to go find Marko and see how the mile looks. I recall him saying he hit somewhere in the mid 190's (he was estimating) and thats from a Supra that runs 9's in the quarter.

Don't you think you would be at top speed before the end of a standing mile? A typical Viper would be around 112 or more at the end of 1/4 mile. I wouldn't think you would need any special formula for a standing mile. Just figure the top speed based on drag, horsepower and gearing.

Freddy, not to rain on your parade or anything, I remember when you posted you hit 180 MPH from a dead stop in a stock Viper a little while back, but you are mistaken. I am not downgrading your car or your driving ability, but you either went for for more than a mile to hit 180 or you went down one hell of a hill. I do not know where you live, if it is still warm, please do me a favor and mark off a level mile and do the standing mile with a witness and see what you get and both report back to this post and tell us how you do.

5th gear in a stock Viper @ 5500 RPM is only 183 MPH, 5750 RPM is 191 MPH. I have a hard time believing you hit 180 in less than a mile but topped out at 183! I think you were excited and got caught up in the heat of the moment. You made a comment that "U" calculate the top speed by "driving it". I have no trouble driving my car Freddy, I am simply trying to figure out how fast my car will go in the standing mile when the Heffner 850 RWHP intercooled supercharger package is installed on my car for when I take it to that standing mile runway in NC. As far as what Tom said, he is correct About Marko's Supra that, according to Marko himself, he went 192 MPH in the standing mile....==> Were talking about a car that does 1.4xxx 60 foot times and traps 140+ MPH in the 1/4.

Freddy, I am not flaming you here, I am hoping there is somebody here on this board who knows the formula for the standing mile based on HP, weight, drag, and possibly gearing. Some of these guys here are pretty sharp and I am pretty sure somebody knows the answer, until then there is only conjecture and comparison to other documented standing mile runs. Paolo

P.S. Tom and Vipers, how do you like my Jay Herbert inspired paragraph method of writing? Doyoureyeshurtless?, I mean, do your eyes hurt less? LOL!

That's some mighty fine writin' there Skippy-D!

What's the next question, how many licks to the center of a Tootsie Pop? One, two-hoo, three... <crunch>. Three.

Actually, go here and look under 'Our Data':

http://www.geocities.com/NapaValley/9528/

Hmmm. This seems to show that girls have to lick more to get the job done.
