I have a 95 RT/10. The owners manual states that the engine holds 9.5 quarts of oil with oil filter change. The 1995 Viper Service Manual says 10 quarts. Which one is right???

Do 9 quarts, run the engine, let it sit overnight and top off in the morning.

Not an exact science as your oil cooler might or might not drain, the car might or might not be level when you drained it, you might leave the drain plug off for 10 minutes or 5 hours, etc......

Neither is correct...I have a 95 and just did mine. The first time I did it I put 9 quarts in and I had to open the plug and drani some out because it was too full. It's more like 8.5 quarts with a filter change.

Wasn't there a TB on this subject? I thought that the dipsticks read incorrectly, on the low side. should show about a half quart over the highside, I thought. Chuck Tator or JonB, are you out there?

I took mine in for service and they had overfilled it using the factory recommended quantities.

I don't think it was damaged, but it gave me some concern.

That was 20K miles ago so I guess I'm in the clear.

My '95 takes 9 quarts with filter. I do not believe the oil cooler drains during a normal oil change.

Toby,

Unless the prior owner of your car upgraded your oil pan to a 2000+, you're a 8 ~ 8.5 qt. capacity. GENI's were higher then early GENII's. 2000+ is 10 qt.
