I am considering parting out a complete GTS sometime soon... how profitable are they parts wise? How big of a demand for parts is there? how much could I sell some of the major parts and systems for? such as:

-engine
-tranny
-hood
-doors
-frame
-SRS
-wheels/tires
-interior
-suspension
-rear diff

Thanks for any info guys... all of the above parts would be in EXCELLENT condition, car has 10K miles.

Why would you ever take apart a viper???

Oh well to each his own. Vipers are one of the few cars that the parts are worth much more than the sum. You can probably make a killing selling those parts on Ebay or such if you are willing to take the frustration.

And they are in demand albeit a niche market.

Why part out a complete Viper. Not sayting anything directly to anybody but I read about a guy asked the same thing once years ago on the Camaro boards and now his is in jail for running a chop shop. Be careful!

As much as we hate to see a viper die.It is at this time not worth more than the sum of its parts in $$.The worth of its parts are currently worth much more than an intact vehicle. This is especially true since DC will no longer mnfgr any parts for the car.The price of no longer available parts will increase drastically with time.If you are willing to destroy a piece of art and history for a quick buck than do it if you have to...If you can hold out, the car(and parts of it) will likely be worth a lot more in a couple of years. We who own vipers can afford at this time in our lives to respect the viper as a piece of art and history.Yeah we make money, but a lot of us probably had to scrounge for money and survival like you do now in our past.We didn't always drink top shelf and champagne.A lot of us used to buy a quart of beer on the weekend to share with a date when we were in college or worried about the kids lunch money.Ask yourself if you would sell the arms of Venus di milo because you needed the money.Personaly I can't afford to buy your car.I am bent over the keyboard rubbing my head in anguish. Please consider selling your car outright to a member of this board.Maybee some on this board can float you a non-payback loan.I understand financial desperation.Do what you have to do. TOBY, this is what I do for extra income and fun. I have title and Bills of Sale in hand, and anyone who purchases a car part from me may see them. I recently found a GTS for a good price with VERY minor rear end damage, runs and drives fine, etc. but it would be worth more in parts that whole...by far.

***If anyone cares to confirm who I am or what-not, Please feel free to take a run over to www.3si.org (3000GT's and Dodge stealts) I have long been a member there and long sold parts though that website. My name on that site is VR4SL.

GTS Bruce, it's not like that at all, the car is damaged with a salvage title, but is in pretty **** good condition. I myself would never own a rebuilt car, so thats out of the question. Besides, the more money I make, the easier it is to buy my NEW Viper. If anything... its a sacrafice for the good of the rest. Damaged vipers are not a good thing. Think of it as a dying person giving their life and donating thier body parts... thats the only analogy I can think of...LOL

Daniel,

Check out the Used Viper Parts website:
http://www.vipercarparts.com/parts.html

I have never bought anything from them because they never called me back or returned my e-mails, but they do list their used parts prices.

Also check out the used parts ads in the classified section on this website for ballpark prices.

Would you be willing to sell it as a whole to a board memeber? I understand as a business man that you are after the most cash you can get for it, but if the price is right I, like many here, would be very interested. I personally have no reservations about driving a rebuilt car. I'll need to wait a couple of months before I could get the money though.

Why don't you ask John Hennessey or I think his name might also be TJ Booker. I've been told he parts out cars he is supposed to be tuning. He can probably tell you where and how much you should expect.

If the car is a salvage...go for it...but you stated in your first post..."Complete".

A banged up salvage is much different than "complete". Do you own the car yet? If so, just take some pics of the parts you want to sell....put them on ebay and see what happens. Try to get a parts price list from the dealer and take off 10% and see if you get any buyers. If not re-list 15% off the new price..etc etc.. until you see the demand. Set a reserve price at what you think you want and see what kind of high bids you are getting and adjust the reserve accordingly.

I didn't think your car was damaged. From your post it sounded like it was in perfect shape.Still if its an easy repair why not repair it and sell it outright?IF done correctly a rebuild will probably be straighter and a better car than the original.A friend of mine bought 2 wrecked camaros. One front and the other rear. Both cars were cut in half(sectioned) by him, positioned on a frame machine and one car was properly created including a sun roof. His wife drove it a couple of years until she got tired of it.It was traded in on a blazer for her.Anyway You and Jim and I will have to get together when the weather clears.JIm and I both joined VCA Ontario.Their events are within an hour or two of us.If you see a saphire blue gts out there,Driver with gray hair(sometimes on fire) with a redhead passenger(wife) well thats us. The Viper IS in EXCELLENT condition, ACCEPT for the following parts: rear bumper/lights, glass, rear fenders. It is not currently in my possetion, I am basically testing the waters to see if it would be worth it for me to get it...if not, I will continue to part 3000GT's. the cars is Blue/White with 10K miles on it.

The main reason I am doing this as so is because my financing fell through on my new Viper, and I need to pay for it in cash... which means I need to either speed up my 3000GT parting, or find a more profitable car-and the Viper seems to be it. Not only that, but parting out this car would get me a **** load of 1-on-1 experience with the car, which I want. This may take me a little longer to get my new car, (but still over summer), but not owing money on it sounds worth it to me...

For anyone wondering, Financing fell through because I need a co-signer (I have no credit, I have always used cash...dont even have a credit card) and the only people willing to do it for me were my parents as they know how much money I REALLY make. But, we own a business and the bank wont allow them to co-sign ANYTHING because we currently have 2 mortgages, and a few company loans on vehicles, etc. We dont have much more allowable room for more loans, so the bank doesnt want them to take any more just in case we actually really need one.

Just a thought... depending on cars structural condition, I MAY consider rebuilding and selling..we'll have to see if I get it. hell...may even consider keeping it if it doesnt have a salvage title... if theres no no under damage, may replace all damaged with new parts, that way it really is as good as new. then buy a Final edition next winter and have a complete pair! lol

Toby wrote to put it on e-bay at 10% off list, then try 15% off..

But having bought many used parts myself, some from here, some from used parts dealers, and many off of e-bay, I can say that the list prices are outrageous, and that most people are expecting to pay about 40% of list for used parts.

Even those prices are amazingly high (not for a limited edition sports car, but compared to any other car).

For instance, the dealer price for a new hood is around $17K!, with a perfect used hood going for about $6-7K complete, and about $4K for a great deal. Less for one damaged and repaired.

And like most body parts for cars, your potential buyers can find an aftermarket hood for between $2500 and $5K from places like Autoform, so the buyer has some options, which will reflect in the final price that you can get for your parts.
