How refined will the coupe be?

Honestly, I'm not interested if it's much below 600hp, but I was thinking about what an SRT with a roof would be like? I remember my first drive in a snake, a 94 red RT/10. Wow, what a rush. I remember my 99 RT/10 and thinking how much nicer it was with real windows and a factory hardtop. Though it wasn't really different in the summer with the top off and the windows down. I think about the 02 GTS. The roof made a big difference in refinement as the car felt solid and almost comfy. No creaks and rattles. Now I have an SRT-10. It mixes the raw feeling of the RT/10's with the tighter construction of the GTS. Will the SRT coupe be another huge step above the previous GTS? Will the wind noise be muffled, will the car have the solid feel? I hope they don't make it feel like an E55....

Viperfreak- I have thought about this to. It seems to me that a Coupe will really offer no more useable structural rigidity as the SRT is about as stiff as anyone could want as it is, it wont be quieter as far as squeaks and rattles- so, I must ask myself- whats the point? I end up with the same car with a painted top instead of black. Only one problem- the top doesnt go down! Personally, I would MUCH prefer to have the Metal-Crafters styled top available w/ a new trunklid to get the full effect of a coupe -when wanted- but still have the ability to take that top off.

I agree, much under 600HP, it's a no go for me. Much less than the looks of the GTS-R and it's also a no go for me.

I for one hope it's less refined than the current SRT-10 offering. I hope they go back to that raw race car feel and drive.

The SRT is so advanced over the Gen II's that at speed it doesn't transfer the feel of the speed to you in the cockpit. I would miss that.

650HP should be the minimum mark! No more refinement needed, it's refined enough already.

I agree that no more refinement is needed. It's hard to believe, however, that the level of refinement will be less than the current SRT-10. Obviously, a large horsepower increase will be necessary to stay ahead of the competition. I hope it happens.

Some excitement needs to be injected back into the Gen III/coupe. If it's just a coupe without some GTSR going on AT LEAST (but preferrably, also with more power), goodbye.

I agree totally. There used to be a 95-100 hp difference between the Viper and all the other 'high performance' cars. Now we have many equals and many superiors. When an M5 has 7 more ponies, a Ford has +50, and several Mercedes are +100! it's time to find something else.

i am thinking the same thing. if the coupe is not quicker then ill go for an "f" car or a ford gt once they lower that markup. but i will still keep my srt :)

ferrari time... what the heck  what viper has to do with ferrari? You can buy ferrari today if you want... I don't. I want powerfull roadster where I sit close to a rear axle and maximize the funfactor. That's all this is about anyway. Ferrari (and other rear engines) certainly drives well but it's boring in a real life. Unless you are on track you just can't enjoy these cars on US roads. In canyons and on mountain roads you have tons more fun with roadster then truck, believe you me :smirk: If you bought Viper to have the mooost powerful car then sell it, buy a locomotive and put it on 4 wheels:)

C’mon now...show us a drop-top that truly competes with the Viper. If 500hp isn't enough for you, why not throw a Paxton on and enjoy 750hp or even more. What's your aversion to that solution? Try it you may like it.

Lots of cars are now available with +/-500 hp, however they do not give the same driving experience that our Vipers do. Most are heavier, loaded down with lots of electronics, that dampen out all the fun. Hit the gas on most of these cars, and the car answers back with electronic applied breaking. So instead of a nice patch, you get overheated brakes.
Show me another stock car, in the Viper price range, that gives a better driving experience. Show me another modified car that betters a SRT/Paxton experience.
Maybe the grass looks greener on the other side, but for a kick in the pants ride, the Viper Rules.

I have new car fever, not mod fever (yet) I like something new and different in the driveway every year or so. I've had the SRT about 18 months.

The something else I had in mind was a Cobra replica. It has it's drawbacks, but I'm looking for kick butt performance and 'feel' for under 100K. That leaves out the Z06. So if I want a new car, my choices are A) another Viper which I wouldn't buy unless there's a huge performance jump. or B) Superperformance Cobra with +800hp.

If DC does build a 650 horse coupe , it will have to be a more refined car . The suspension, brakes, drivetrain will all have to be upgraded to match more wear and tear from said horsepower. Remember, Papa Dodge must provide a warranty for these cars. Overall extra costs for this might be more than the avarage Viper buyer will pay. How much would you pay? Would 2500 of us line up to buy this car ? I think so

I am one of the 2500, I was going to buy the 2004 SRT/10,which is an awesome Viper, but now the new coupe is coming out,I am going to buy it instead. 500hp or 650hp I do not care, I only hope they bring back Sneaky Pete......it is a great time we live in, I love the muscle car wars between manufacturers. I hear for the new coupe, DC will bore and stroke the 8.3 motor to 600hp if not more, also the front facia and nose will look like the comp coupe. I want one blue/white stripes, I wish Woodhouse was taking deposits now, heck I will send a check to DC to get in line for one of these bad boys.....I am so viper crazy that if the wife would allow me I would take my vipers to bed with me, sorry guys, I am a Viper die hard......

I think the body on the SRT coupe should be a little more dramatic. More like the Comp Coupe. Some flared wheel housings and maybe rear brake ducts. Traction control and a sequential shifter would be sweet!
