I'm trying to install chrome smooth tubes (thanks JonB) and I can't figure out how to remove the clamps on the stock tubes.

Do I pull or push the metal square prong sticking up? I tried each direction but was afraid I'd snap the metal.

If it is the same as on my 2002 RT-10 it's just a matter of squeezing the clamp together until it "locks."

The ones on my Viper are pretty nice in that they "lock" together once you squeeze them enough.

I used a pair of pliers to grab the ends and squeeze them together until they locked.

Then you just take them off.

They are pretty tight - I had to put a good amount of force to lock them - be careful not to slip off the clamp.

All the best.

They don't always lock real good when squeezed together. Tip: squeeze together, and with a screwdriver, lift up the tab to engage the tip that locks in place.
