I can\'t believe that I actually bought a Viper this weekend...

So I finally sold this car that I restored the other weekend and was able to buy a Viper. It is a 96 RT/10, white with blue stripes. It has 35k miles so I consider that to be a fairly low. It has the hardtop but unfortunatly no soft top and the sports pad didn't come with the car. It isn't perfect but I am very happy and can't believe it is mine.

It was really frustrating because it rained like crazy all weekend and I just wanted to actually drive and clean it. Once it dried out today I actually was able to get it out. I still can't get over how much power it has! I have been taking it really easy till I get used to the car.

Now I just need to see about getting it looked at by someone that really knows Vipers (I am thinking of calling Chuck T to have his shop go over it).

Guess it is time to join the VCA.

If I was lucky enough to live near Tator's, he'd be the only one to look at/work on my Viper. Definitly take it to him if you're lucky enough to be close to him. :2tu:

Congrats on the purchase. Where in NJ are you located? You should come on our Run on Sunday! Great way to welcome you to the club and car since it is sure to be one of the best events of the year.

Hello F355. I am in Mountainside (Union County near Westfield/Summitt). Is the info on the Run in the events section? If I am around I would definitely be interested in going.

Yeah if you can make it, you will have a ton of fun. Even have a caravan out of NJ to NYC so if you want to meet us let me know.

Enjoy your car!!!

Worth the trip to Chuck Tator's, he'll give it a good going over and knows just what to look for unlike most other hacks. Make an appointment, he can be backed up a month.

Congrats on the Viper!

Chuck Tator IS the Viper Wizard, a trip to Doc T's would be of great benefit to both you and the Viper!

Now join the VCA .....less than 28 CENTS per day!

Very nice cars IL96RT10. I have always liked those TAs.

I paid $30,100 for it. It is not perfect but I thought that price was fair given the miles. That and the previous owners do not seem to have modified it at all (doesn't even have smooth tubes). I have it scheduled to go Chuck T. at the end of the month so we shall see.

Welcome to the Viper World. I understand and share your enthusiasm!

My friend just bought one this weekend (his first - a pristine 93 RT/10) and we drove it back to Virginia Beach from Amarillo, Texas (over 1700 miles). He's wanted one for years, and finally made the plunge.

Join the VCA ASAP! Enjoy!

RT/10 Vipers with factory stripes are cool and only were made for 2 years. If you take care of your Viper it will last you a long time so don't worry about the 35k miles. If you avoid driving it in the rain it will be easier to keep clean. Get a good cloth to dust it and use 2 people to take off your roof to avoid scratching the car.
Congrats and enjoy.

Re: I can\'t believe that I actually bought a Viper this weekend...

Wow $30,100..????? That is a great price I just got mine in April and paid $36,500 it had 19k on it but Hell I am already at 27k I know 8000 miles in 4 months and I don't drive it everyday just weekends but when I drive it I drive it all day.
Re no soft top, i guess it will be difficult to go far from home w/o one until you get one. I have the hard top but have never put it on. Soft top works well in a pinch just practice putting it on so in a sudden downpour you can pull into a gas station and put it on in a few minutes. Enjoy your car and get ready for lots and lots off attention

Re: I can\'t believe that I actually bought a Viper this weekend...

I am very happy with the price and the car so far. 34k miles isn't so bad. Now it just needs to stop raining here! It has a couple imperfections with the paint but there is nothing that I can't live with.

The car also came with a tonneau cover that will work in a pinch but because it didn't come with a sports pad I hate the way it looks right now with the top off. So one of the first things I will be getting will be that pad and then a used top.

Hey congrats!!!

I personally think you'll be very pleased w/the 1996 RT/10. It's the best of both worlds, mainly a Gen2 car, except for the engine and interior.

Well glad to see you got the best model, you'll really enjoy it, trust me :)

Nice car. Something you might consider is having the blue stripes painted over the top and through the front and back like the 96 and later GTS color schmes. A previous member of our Colorado club had his done that way and it looked great. He also did the center caps in blue. Just an idea. Looks great as is.

Re: I can\'t believe that I actually bought a Viper this weekend...

IL96RT10 what is the scoop on that model TA?

After my clutch/flywheel and new exhaust was finished, someone in one of those TAs let me test out my new setup on them (it was no competition of course :)

bth1 - if you keep your eyes peeled, you can get a sport bar from ebay, but they run abour $1K, believe it or not. A soft-top will set you back around the same, (make sure you ONLY get a 96 top), sometimes less if you're quick.

Great car, great deal. I was looking for one like that when I found my GTS. The colour scheme is fantastic.

Re: I can\'t believe that I actually bought a Viper this weekend...

The '96 White/Blue RT10 was my first Viper, and I enjoyed that car for five years. Get ready for lots of attention. Of the four that I have/had, the '96 seems to have had the biggest "gawk factor". If it weren't for the pop in windows, I'd probably still have it. Best of luck with yours, and do join the VCA.
