Hey guys
My car spun out of control while going in 1st gear and hit the curb pretty bad. Car is not drivable. It had to be towed on a flat. :( Does anyone have any suggestions as to where have the car fixed. I live in Los Angeles. I've been recommened the bodyshop by DC Perf. I was gonna go w/ that unless anyone has a better suggestion. Thanks in advance for your advise and time. Hooman

Did you choose your forum name before of after the accident? :p

beat me too it lol

Shelby, Stu: Wow... supportive bunch we are. ;)

Welcome to the party pal.

Don't know about bodyshops in you're area. Just wanted to let you know that we (even shelby and stu) are glad you walked away from the accident ok, and hope your repairs go well and quickly.

Just reading of all these recent Viper bite stories makes me even more alert when I drive mine. Driving Vipers with a small dose of fear is a good thing.

Dr. Melamed:

Sorry. Sux.

But were we not just all talking about this very thing?

Likely, not a good time to mention that.

At least it was not a Black Mamba....wait....well, at least it was not a low number Black Mamba....wait...

OK, I got nothing.

Okay, someone here seems to be a cat in the hat fan.

Been too much about car crashes lately. Way toomuch. Must be a cold tire thing as traction is much worse and so is road quality. Ugh! If only we could be driving too!

Just noticed he is in LA. Can't be the temps then can it?

I find the SRT much more controllable than a Gen I/II. If you have a control issue with the SRT you would have an extreme problem with a Gen I/II.

The problem is this.if you get abusive with a Viper when tires are cold you will lose it.Happened to me when I got my Viper.Got foot happy. Doesn't mean you drive it for 5 minutes and the tires are warm.

Sorry to hear of your mishap, H man. The car can be fixed like new, but at least you aren't injured, thats the bright spot in this.

You have to get used to how it handles, cold tires and warm tires alike. When you first take it out of the garage, you drive it around a bit before you stomp on it, and even then, make sure its pointed straight. When you get familiar, you can learn how to feather the gas and countersteer to balance the car, and keep it in a controlled drift while the rears are spinning. But you gotta walk before you can run. Give it some time, you have an eternity!

Dan Cragin is a very reputable man, has a great shop, tons of experience. I think that his shop is about the best place to go, or as good/better than any. Can't go wrong bringing it to Dan. Just don't ask him to cobble it together, pay him what he needs to do it right. That guy has too much integrity to cut corners, and knows how to do things right.

I can relate to this, got back from vacation in Jan and snuck the snake out between rain storms. Walked out of the gym and saw it was raining. On the way home I shifted from first to second without alot of power and the backend broke loose. Snapped the car left, steered it back and it spun around and took me into the curb - felt like ice.

No flat tires, no body damage - $12K of suspension work, not cheap. I trust Dan, he has worked on my car several times. You might want to consider some mods while there.

Good luck with the fix, hope your insurance premium is current :)

Yes, take it to DP Performance. Dan Cragin took care of my 1999 Viper Rt/10 after I crashed it, and he currently works on my 2000 Viper RT/10.

Trust him, he's a great guy, and an honest guy.

Hi Jim

Thanks for the e-.

The accident was pretty freaky. Light turned green and started a smooth accelaration in 1st gear. all of a sudden my passenger and I felt something "give." The whole car started shaking violently and then rear of the car started sliding side to side. I felt as if the wheels are working against each other if that makes sense. Next the whole car started spinning out of control and finally I hit the curb.
I was going straight w/out any turns and I never braked not to mention the road was bone dry.
I was very lucky to miss the parked cars and pedesterians. I'm pretty sure, there was something wrong the car. My insurrance company and somebody from Dodge will investigate the car. I'm curious to see what will the investigation will turn up. Thanks again. Hooman

Your rear axle might have grenaded. That happened on some early SRTs.
