YOu can do some searching and find lots of info...But, first year for the GTS was 96. This is referred to as the Gen II. All Gen II's are 450hp...Original Gen I viper started in 92 with 400hp...I am not familiar with the creature comfort changes in the GTS's, but base HP and handling I don't think varied much from 96 to 02.

There are some GT2 and ACR cars that might take exception with that.

been working on my viper differences page quite a bit lately. plenty of references back to this site, working with viperjay to incorporate here.

don't think there have been any changes in the bolt wheel pattern though, ;^). check it out.

WELCOME TO THE BOARD BRAD. YOU'VE MADE ONE OF THE BEST DECISIONS OF YOUR LIFE IN BUYING A VIPER. YOU'LL SOON BE PART OF AN ELITE GROUP! THE VIPER IS A VERY EXCLUSIVE CAR. (UNLIKE THE VETTE)
FOR EXAMPLE: IN 2001 THERE WERE ONLY 827 GTS'S MADE FOR THE U.S. & ONLY 359 OF THEM HAD STRIPES. I'D CALL THAT EXCLUSIVE.
THE GTS DEBUTED IN 1996 AND IMHO THEY'VE IMPROVED ON THE CAR EVERY YEAR. THE BIGGEST THING IMO, FROM OWNING A FEW, WOULD HAVE TO BE THE COOLING ISSUES. OTHER THAN THAT, THE COSMETIC IMPROVEMENTS REALLY OVERSHADOW ANYTHING ELSE. MAKING THE VIPER MORE & MORE COMFORTABLE, W/O SACRIFICING BRUTE POWER, EVERY YEAR. ALL GTS'S HAVE 450 HP & I'D RECCOMEND ANYTHING FROM 98 & UP. ALTHOUGH THE 97 BLUE WAS MY FAVORITE COLOR.

BUT TO BE PERFECTLY HONEST W/ YOU BRAD, YOU REALLY CAN'T GO WRONG WITH ANY YEAR YOU CHOOSE. THE CAR IS JUST AWESOME.

ACRs have 10 more hp, but that's because they come with smooth tubes and filters, a ~$100 set of mods that everyone does. Don't worry about getting an ACR unless you want the specific features it has (someone else here can better list them than me, deals with suspension, wheels, and recalled 5pt belts).

No changes to the bolt pattern or offset during entire Gen I or II "life"... hubs are the same. Any model year wheel/tire combo (17" or 18") will fit on any other model year Viper (so far).

Exhaust: Corsa, B&B, Borla, Mopar Performance, Balenger.....

of course biased heavy cammed early GenII owners (96,97 and 98) would say that those year cars had over 20 more horse to the tires and Dodge calmed things down in 99 and moreso in 2000 (do a search on "creampuff") to eliminate NGR of the early cars, yet the rating stays at 450 from 96 to 02 as all Viper motors are underated, but these types of biased opinions are usually taken with a grain of salt after reading the car owned by the poster..............

Drop that zero and get with the hero before you get used to the cupholder........
