I have decided to take one of two paths:

1. Delete the resonators and install the hi-flow cats
2. Delete the cats and leave the resonators

Either option should raise the noise level significantly and I am excited about picking up a few extra horsepower in the process.

Take Birvini's suggestion-- I have that setup. Sounds great, if you don't mind the drone. Of course you'll need a stereo upgrade! John

Same set up here. Belanger Headers, no cats, 3" Belanger exhaust with Walker Race Bullet mufflers. I have 2.5 years and 25K miles on this set up with no problems. I am not aware of any drone with our rear pipe car, but have been heard about 2 miles away at WOT. Stereo takes a back seat to the exhaust music.

The OEM stereo isn't much to brag about even with stock exhaust.

Steve--- maybe it's the proximity of my sidepipes. Sounds great. It always makes heads turn when i go anywhere. Yes, I'm an attention hound---I bought a viper didn't I? John

John,

I think the side pipes probably have some effect. Your car is a little meaner sounding than mine at idle due to the old lumpy camshaft profile. I have a friend with a '97 GTS and the same set up. He's got me by a little at idle with that lopey rumble. Nevertheless I still make the walls vibrate upstairs when I start the car in the garage.

I find myself gravitating towards this goal. If I am simply looking for a loud and mean sound, can I reach my goal by deleting the stock resonators and installing high flow cats? Remember, I already have an X-pipe (instead of a rear muffler). I am on a limited budget so I am avoiding the purchase of headers and cat back systems if at all possible. You guys are great. Thanks for the advice. :headbang:
