Re: I raced an SRT this weekend, in my 2001 GTS.

Well, if you twist my arm, I hate to say it, but it doesn't seem like the SRT is all that faster than a lively GTS. I thought it would trounce me, based on the magazine numbers. I figure the lighter weight and big rubber of the SRT makes for a quicker car off the line, and with an expert driver, that puts the SRT in the high 11s in the 1/4, and 0-60 in under four. But this weight advantage isn't as pronounced from a rolling start.

The SRT still has the advantage, with its better brakes, lighter weight, and great handling. Have you been on track with one yet, in your Gen2?

So what's your point Vic?

Why don't you just write "I love the SRT, I love the SRT, I love the SRT" instead?

Vic - nice post, esp. with the witnesses to bring solid confirmation. Thanks!

Clint

Ha ha, ok, "aspviper", as soon as I am in Canada, I'll look you up. :D

I'm going to the track this Saturday to see how I do in the 1/4 mile. (We all know that an SRT with the right driver will beat a GTS). I'm not a drag racer, and I have never been to the 1/4 mile track before, so I probably will be lucky if I get into the 12s at all! I'll probably hit mid 13s at first. I'll let you know the results, if they aren't too embarassing!

The SRT *definitely* lays down the traction better than a Gen2 Viper. I bet that's where most of the ET difference is between the two cars. You can romp the SRT hard and it doesn't want to get sideways on you. (that's not any fun...)

So Vic,
Out practicing for the Western Zone Drags next month, eh? I think aspviper will be looking you up in Long Beach. :smirk:

Re: I raced an SRT this weekend, in my 2001 GTS.

What we have here is a basic communications problem...
It was my brand spankin new SRT Vic is delusional about. I didn't realize we were racing! I was pacing Vic as he increased speed. He was in 3rd and I was in 4th. There was traffic on the road that I felt posed a risk to driving any faster and....I just got back from Phoenix after fighting a speeding ticket. I have had several Vipers and have about 80,000 miles in Gen 1 and Gen 2 cars. The SRT is faster, quicker, handles better, stops better,is more comfortable...shall I keep going? Or as Clint would expect...I love the SRT.
Be patient Vic...your beating will come soon enough. Enjoy your GTS while you can

Re: I raced an SRT this weekend, in my 2001 GTS.

Andy, as I have so clearly stated, the SRT leaves the GTS in the 1/4 mile, with the right driver. Why would you get upset if I already acknowledge that? My point has more to do with the closeness of a rolling start, which I beleive is repeatable. I am willing to try it again, if you aren't convinced. In fact, I was willing to try it again right then, but you wouldn't go again. If you were so concerned with safety, and weren't racing, why did you sail through that little clump of cars? I shut it down when I saw them, because there was not enough margin for error, with those cars ahead. Before that, there was just one car, and lots of wide open space, just in case. But after we got by that one car, then that clump of cars came up, and I thought it best not to get too close at that speed. I was surprised to see you **** by them.

I was definitely in forth, now that I think about the indicated RPMs and the speed we started going at.

Don't be upset, I mean you no harm.

You going to the drags this Saturday? I hope mine don't break, its making a clunking noise that the dealership can't find. DJ is looking at it, hopefully it will be healed by Saturday!

Ding Ding, round 1.

Get out to the nearest track and go at it!

While an SRT will clean a GenII on a road circuit of any kind as GenII stopping times are longer than a minivan, in the 1/4 I'm not so sure. I ran one several times last year and was neck and neck, I'd pull ahead on the gear changes as I'm not one to let off the throttle much.

I never disputed any of those points you mention above. Be confident in your self, and what you have. A rolling start is not a thourough measure of a car's abilities, I realize that fully. And I love the SRT too! Thats why I asked you if I could sit in it. (Thank you) I think its an amazing world-class sports car, nothings' changed! You can see my many posts on this subject, and I am always a staunch defender of the SRT.

look at gtsviper already making the excuses! gts, you sound like a pro!

Here's some more for ya

"my hair was wet and I couldn't see right"

"the carpet was ruffled up under my gas pedal"

"I missed 4 shifts in a row"

"I didn't know he was racing me"

"I need to change my plug wires, install new tire air and clean the un-aerodynamic bugs off"

I'm sure gts has some more for our amusement too.

It was "TTTTTHHHHHHHIIIIIIISSSSSSS" Big! :D

All I want is peace. I'm sorry for posting what I did. I only thought it interesting, thats all, at how factors of HP and weight influence a rolling start. I never thought, nor do I now think, that my GTS is faster than an SRT. If anyone reads that in my post, I cannot understand why. I only posted the facts as I saw them. Maybe I assumed Andy had his foot in it, but it was only really 3/4s the way down, how would I know? I never said I was pulling him, and I know full well that an SRT driven properly will beat a GTS off the line. I'm sorry to have ruffled any feathers, especially Andy's. I called him my buddy in my first post, and I meant it. I hope he can forgive me for posting about our romp.

Vic...

Don't apologize for your post :( ....I have really enjoyed reading about your adventures with the SRT. And now that the SRT is speaking up it is getting even better :) I too own an SRT and am very, very impressed with the car and the way it performs. My GTS is currently being worked on by DLM so I have not been able to get both cars on the track to see what they can do against each other(and when the GTS gets back I am fairly sure that it will outrun the SRT by a considerable margin  ). I have been amazed by the number of Vetts, etc. that DO NOT want to run the SRT. One guy followed me into a parking lot and told me that he read in the car mags where the SRT was smoking everything this side of a lambo(this kid had a Z06).
The SRT is a great car...and it WILL put up some great numbers.

Yep, no doubt. In fact, the SRT is smoking the Lambo, too, in many respects. (You've seen the Motor Trend High Speed Shootout?)

Re: I raced an SRT this weekend, in my 2001 GTS.

Ah but the GTS is faster than an SRT10...Higher top speed. The SRT is quicker..The SRT at speed is slower than a GTS cause of aero if you believe mag tests....Seen a test of a GTS going 4mphs faster and almost a half second quicker in the standing mile. However the two tests were a few years apart so take that for what its worth...........

In the 1/4 mile its all SRT with a good driver....After that the GTS will creep.......BTW theres no way, in my opinion, that the SRT driver wasnt in it all the way.....The GTS aint a Civic that you can toy with at 3/4 throttle especially at those speeds........Plus this particular GTS had mild mods....He was in it all the way.....

Gerald, LOL, come on now... e-thuggery is pretty cool! Maybe he was asking if I was "hung lightly" and hoping to meet such a guy? Maybe looking for "easy entry" into the world of fey? I'm the wrong guy in so many ways for that sort of thing

gtsviper, don't worry - it's not the car that's slow, it's you. And you're not a very good driver either. LOL

My '01 RT/10 is faster than my wife's SRT. Of course, my RT has a few minor mods, and my wife's SRT has the bad valves...

Liar! Stop feeling insecure about your RT/10. The SRT CAN'T lose to a GenII, don't you know that?? Jheesh.

Mike,

You took Ben's hook, line and 60 pound weight. His RT10 has the hp of two stock GENII's or perhaps Two SRT's.

Uhhhh, I suspect Mike knows that ;)
