It seems it's just a matter of time that gen 1 head gaskets will fail....so why not change them before they go and be done with it? If you have an extended warranty it would only cost $50.

Anybody ever consider this?

Weird thinking or smart move?

I wouldn't think a dealer would do it if they hadn't started leaking. There's nothing in it for them to get to it early. They might never have to fix it under warranty. You might never get a leak. You might wreck the car.

If the Dealer did the work before there was a failure then claimed the work was done under your warranty that would be "WARRANTY FRAUD" The Dealer could risk loosing his franchise.

True but...

Happens all the time. I spent 4 years working in dealerships both foreign and domestic.

Dealer service managers just have to know how much of it to do or their warranty claims history might show excessive claims. Many times the factory rep will turn the other way too as he/she knows that certain repairs should be done even if there are no "current" signs of failure. Consider it a "unauthorized recall" For some customers it really was a benefit due to time constraints and inconvenience of bringing the car back in.

If you know a part will fail due to stats that prove this...many dealer service managers will go ahead with the repair. It's not right but if it will fail anyway...then they are just doing the repair early. It sounds funky but I saw it everyday from little trim pieces to major repairs.

Sounds like one should just wait for to happen (if at all) then get it done.

I was just wondering if the gaskets did pop does it cause other damage where it would require a rebuild. Hence a cheaper repair and less down time. That was my real reason for the question.

Warranty? $50? On an item known to Dodge as a failed design?

Are you crazy? Of course!

Influence the leak and take it in for repair. Otherwise 6 months after your warranty ends, you'll pay for it...or whoever has the car next.
