True but...
Happens all the time. I spent 4 years working in dealerships both foreign and domestic.
Dealer service managers just have to know how much of it to do or their warranty claims history might show excessive claims. Many times the factory rep will turn the other way too as he/she knows that certain repairs should be done even if there are no "current" signs of failure. Consider it a "unauthorized recall" For some customers it really was a benefit due to time constraints and inconvenience of bringing the car back in.
If you know a part will fail due to stats that prove this...many dealer service managers will go ahead with the repair. It's not right but if it will fail anyway...then they are just doing the repair early. It sounds funky but I saw it everyday from little trim pieces to major repairs.
Sounds like one should just wait for to happen (if at all) then get it done.
I was just wondering if the gaskets did pop does it cause other damage where it would require a rebuild. Hence a cheaper repair and less down time. That was my real reason for the question.
