Hello Viper community. A good friend just picked up his Camaro from a local perf. shop. For about 4 grand they did heads, cam, headers and dynotuned his car. Before he had the work done, his car was about 99% stock.

He is now getting a modest 409 HP at the rear wheels and a really flat torque band. Not to mention his car sounds like a funnycar chug chug chug chug. Its truly intimidating. For a camaro.

Are there any shops in Illinois that can do this kind of work to a viper before I get my Butt handed to me by a Camaro? I live about 8 miles from Svsi but their prices are really steep. I have confidence in Rons shop but I dont want to drop 30 grand into a car that is barley worth 60.

I currently have the basic DIY mods. Corsa, home-made smoothtubes, high flow cats.

Apex seems to have good deals but they are in Cali.

Thanks for anyones input.

You should be able to take him. I don't think you have any problems that a couple hours of training in street racing from Paolo Castellano won't solve. Otherwise, if you want to SPANK him, get a Roe S/C. I think TOOFST is a Roe S/C dealer/installer.

I am sure I can take him. I am a good launcher and he usually spins his tires. I need more power regardless. 450 HP from a 8.0L V10 is pretty embarrassing.

I agree with David. Talk to TOOOFST. He's working on his motor and should be able to help you out. Are you ready to start meeting up somewhere on Thursdays again once this snow goes away?

Thursdays what usually pretty cool. Except for when Paolos dog was ******* on everyones car.:)

My car was in hybernation for part of the winter. I redid the side fins on my wing and today I dropped my wheels off to have them fixed. My car is up on jack stands in the apt. garage. Should be ready to rock this weekend. I saw Scotts Nos system the day those monkeys were asking for a race in their sweet galant vr4. I think it was a sting operation. No one is that stupid.

Are we banished from UNOS? I remember the dam n pOlice breaking everything up. I guess we should have been out on the street selling 8-balls.

Want to organize something?

Kieth, get yourself some Belanger or B&B headers and the Roe supercharger. You should be around 575-600 RWHP. What more do you need? Plus you can do the work yourself! BTW, Scotty TOOFAST is in fact a Roe distributor so give him a call.

I like to get out earlier, so I am up for meeting someplace 6:45-7:00, relax and grab a bite to eat, and then IF the SuperCarsChicago group has something going on, meet up with them.

Dave, That would be my hypothetical training course where the student studies their dyno curves and HP/Torque multiplication vs gearing splits to maximize the accelerative nature of the Dodge Viper to stack the cards in his favor should the occasion arise to do so in a legal and controlled manner at the drag strip. This would be similar to Tom Welch's drag racing video. Tom's video gives the nuts and bolts of how to hook up and launch the car, the video portion of my course will address more so the subtleties of 'knowing without knowing' like in the movie, "The Last Dragon" ===> WHOO'S THE MAASTER?????? SHO-NUFF!

Keith, she was only ******* on the new guy from out of town's car! :D Those cars must be awfully low for her to squat on! LOL!

Seriously though, what exactly do you want to do with your car? How much power do you want? How much do you think you need? How much do you think you can handle having without getting arrested? These are some of the rhetorical questions that have to be answered honestly before you can even determine which way to go. In today's Viper tuner market, there are so many more choices than there used to be a couple of years ago. It's truly fascinating some of the things some tuners have been coming up with lately. I would even venture to say it is mind blowing what people are starting to do with the Viper V-10. Many great choices depending on what you want to do with the car.

P.S. I would not be worried about the Camaro, my dog with wooden blocks on her spotted little paws could pilot your car to victory over the Camaro at the dragstrip!

Paolo,

"How much do you think you can handle having without getting arrested?"
hahaha.
If it has 4 wheels Ill get arrested driving it. Cops love me.

I Just want it to be a notch above the rest. It will never be the fastest Viper, but something a little more balzy. Some more power, a better sound, a chug chug chug chug idle. People are often disappointed when they ask. "What all have you done to it" Its mostly stock. I dont like to disappoint people ya' know.

I'd be happy with some heads, headers and a pretty aggressive cam just so it will be a little nasty.

Maybe after racing school the Viper just feels like a pooch.

L8ter. I want to see you take someone this summer. People arent to anxious to drag around here. Unless they have a stock Civic with a Fart can. whoopie.

SuperCarsChicago is like FightClub and Paolo's Driving School: invitation only and not talked about. It's the Thursday night group started by a guy known as "-m".

SuperCarsChicago is really just a group of great car guys who like to get together and talk about working on cars. Little secret: although Paolo will spew facts and theories all night long about mods and driving, I've never seen him run ******* the street. I think he enjoys talking more.

Lots of modded Vipers, Supras, etc, are in the group, with the occasional Ferrari and Lambo. Unfortunately, the location of the SCC meetings get leaked and every mullet-head in the Chicagoland area shows up to pick fights (wanna race). SuperCarsChicago is not into that. It's a very mature, professional group of car guys.

Keith, if you want the chug-chug sound, I would recommend removing the cats(for off-road use only of course) and adding some headers. I know the 1996-1997 cams sound a bit lumpier than the later ones. I have a 1996 Cam in great shape if you are interested. No cats/headers and some good mufflers that don't muffle too much make a loud sound that makes people really notice....That will definitely NOT be disappointing!
