Are you a VCA member? Chuck Tator gives great prices and service to VCA members. Definately contact him. http://www.tatorsdodge.com/

20K sounds too good to be true. Make sure there is nothing else wrong with it. Miles? Frame straight? The door knobs on my 97 went bad. Since it's a track car I haven't bothered to get them fixed. What do you plan to do with it? Road race? Drags? Street? Show?

Re: I\'m going to buy this GTS.... but need some advice!!

I've been investigating this for some time so I'm probably still clueless. I still like to hear myself talk though.

You need to keep in mind that the hood alone will run you at least $15k-18k to replace with OEM. (I've heard of $10,000 aftermarket ones but have yet to find them) The fenders and fascia will cost another $5000+ not mention any professional work needed such as paint and electronics. So for parts alone expect to pay around $35,000+ for the car. When you add parts and labor you really need to ask yourself.

The $20k price tag is very reasonable (and something I have personally been desperately seeking). So the question will remain: how much do you love the car?

My suggestion: If you have $35k laying around then check out the classifieds and get a car you can drive home. (Oh and if you do decide to buy another GTS please lend me that guys number....j/k)

I thought 97's where blue and white???

New OEM Hood... 13,000k
New Bumper or Front Fascia.. 5,000
Paint, probably 2,000
Work,,... extra couple k????

TOtal.. low 40's plus time and headache..

Used GTS's now, low 40's, asking price and selling price are TWO different numbers...

I'd steer clear of this deal! Who wants a Viper that's been wrecked?

I'd sure never buy one wrecked. That spells nothin but trouble in the future IMHO. It's clear to me that money really isn't an issue (since you have 2 Vettes & they're modded) so why not buy a nice used Viper that has a good history?

The $20K alone tells me there's more to the car than meets the eye.

Check Ebay...I think I noticed a hood in the list of Viper stuff for sale. I am not sure of the price.

Check classifieds on this site. Saw a 97 hood (blue and white, I think) for a good price (i.e.< $10,000).

I do! But then again I would strip it bare and then put it back together again to see how it worked. (Basically what I'm doing to my poor Honda.)

Keep in mind though I have the attitude that I would much rather have most of a Viper in my garage than none at all. Almost everyone agrees that a sane person would feel just the opposite, but I would be content in knowing I have a sure thing than hoping I can keep my money together long enough to buy one clean. Driving it today would only be a plus, albeit a significant plus.

I thought Autoform (aftermarket mfg) sold a lighter hood for several grand (~$3000)?

slaughterj is on track with the Autoform recommendation. You can get hood and fascia for well under $10K and they will be better for the track. If you want to go back with OEM used, it just all depends on timing and luck.

Good Luck. Also, let me know if you don't want it for $20K....

If the Viper 'TRULY' only needs a hood and a front facia, $20K is a freak'in steal. Call Autoform and get nice aftermarket hood and front facia. Don't know exact prices, but I bet you could easily do it for $10K with paint. $30K for a 1998 Viper GTS would be incredible...... A 1998 GTS in nice shape are 50K - 60K. What's the mileage?

98? I would say Mid 40's to 47k will fetch you one..

Hoods same price..
Front fascia same price, but I'm no where NEAR an expert..

Frame damage?

I'd steer clear, unless you get a gauranteed quote from a Tech. to fix that problem. Then add up all the cost to see if it's worth it. Probably not, as the old quote is still valid, "If it's to good to be true, it usually is....."
