From S2000 Forums:

"A few days back I have received an invitation to come for a fun day at our one and only re-opened drag strip. It is located around 30min. of highway driving from Dubai, in an emirate called Um-Al-Quwain. Drag racing has a longer history than any other motorsport here in the U.A.E., our record is high 6sec."

Gotta love the event. Here are some pictures:

That's beyond crazy. Millions of dollars worth of some of the finest cars in the world. I wonder if they complain about the price of gas for those 10mpg exotics?

I've been the UAE about a dozen times over the last 7 years on business its quite a strange place, they have the worst drivers on the planet
mainly driving 4x4's, there's plenty of wealth in certain areas of Dubai and plenty of slum type areas too off the beaten track

They do moan about fuel increases when I first went there it was about 18 cents a litre, which makes US fuel prices look expensive :)
it has increased slightly over the years. I wouldn't call them westernised either, the whole country relys on Indian labour who are treated pretty poorly almost slave like, they don't like white people or white women in general, the PLC I work for has a business in Dubai and they wont allow UK female staff to work there. The country has a massive Bin Laden following before the twin towers dropped the family branded vehicles and premises were seen everywhere

will have to look out for the drag strip next time

I guess none marvel at why they were drag racing with these cars? Not exactly what they were built for; fun I'm sure but who wants to stop after a quarter mile?

I'm just glad I didn't have to watch.

Wonder how many trannys they pulled?

I've seen pics of 9 and 8 sec tubbed out American muscle cars over there. You can never guess what they run at that track. This many high end exotics at a drag strip is no only unheard of, but I would bet that there was never a time that a GT40, Carrera GT, Enzo, SLR McClaren all met together at an American drag strip simultaneously. I bet the Ariel Atom in the photo kicked all their asses. I believe it runs 0 to 100 in 6.5 seconds.
That turban on that guys head driving the Enzo had to slow him 1/2 sec. down if he had the window down. I need to seriously think about changing careers and go into the oil business, let me know who's in, we'll all get a flight discount over there.
