35,000 miles? Car was a rental car hence the high miles. 2 year extended warranty available for $1900.

I'm in the market for a used GTS under $55k, any factory color except red (no offense to owners with red Vipers).

I would steer clear of that one. There are far too many one owner nice cars out there for just a few thousand more, well within your price range. Take your time and keep on looking.

IMHO it's too high. I paid $45K for my 97 GTS with 23,000 miles on it plus it wasn't a rental car. Even if the silver car was not a rental, I have seen cars with this range of milage with lots of extras for this price. All my friends used to rent cars and just beat the hell out of it. One of them rented a Mustang 5.0 and blew the motor. I would be a little concerned that this rental viper has seen more than it's share of the Ferris Bueller Parking lot attendant excursions. If you're spending up to $55K, there several GTS's to choose from. Remember what they are asking isn't what they will necessarily take. I just got a call from an owner that wants 52.5K to 55K for a 97gts w 8K miles, 7 year warranty, exhaust, flywheel, shifter etc in very nice cond. So they are out there. Good luck

I also would say it's a fair price given the history and mileage. If the car had 5-10K miles and excellent condition it would fetch low $50K or around about.

Here is my suggestion depending on how you want to use the car. If you are going to drive it a lot 1K miles per month then buy it. If you pay a premium for a low mileage car in perfect condition then go to sell it in a couple of years you WILL take a large hit on the price. Whereas if you buy this one the depreciation will not be so great if you put a bunch of miles on it.

NEVER buy a rental. NEVER. they are always abused, especially performance oriented cars.

Buying a rental is a real tough one, as noted above.

As a side note, for that or any other warranty, be sure to inquire whether it would be a DC warranty, or aftermarket, etc., i.e., know what you're paying for.

What ever you do DO NOT BUY A REANTAL CAR!!!!! Those miles are about equal to 120,000 miles of normal wear. I bang the gears in all the 4 cylinder cars I have rented so just imagine what this car went through... Problems will occur in the first week you own it I would bet. Spend the money and get a lower mileage non-rental car...Good luck in your search...

It depends on what you mean by "rental".
some people call a leased car a 'rental'.
Leased expensive cars are not always abused, just leased because of financial reasons.
Either buy from a Dodge dealer you trust or take it to a Viper tech and have him look at it.
Much better advise than from the likes of us.

the price should be down another 10K to account for the rental issue, they are beat, flat out.
I rented a GTS in Vegas with 22K on it, and the car was baffed, looked pretty, sure, they all do, the shape is intoxicating, don't let it win over the car's condition, many items which will not crop up until a few months in.
at that price non-rental cars are available with the same or less miles!
just my .02, good luck in the search....

Do not buy it, unless you want a serious fixer upper.

About 8 months ago a friend of mine rented what was at that time a brand new viper with 10k miles on it. The car was a 2000 which means it was at most several months old due to the way Dodge releases vipers.

My friend and I decided to look at the car up close when he got it home to compare it to my 99. The car was in horible shape, cracks all over the paint, rim chips, the hood was all cracked because the hood support somehow broke on one side? The car overheated horibly when it was going through the canyons, this happened 4 times.

To make a long story short, I would not pay anything for that car it was basicly destroyed and needed complete restoration and it was only 5 months old at most.

The car you are looking at is way older than that and I can just imagine the things wrong with it. The old YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR is basicly always true. With the amount of money it would take to solve the problems you could buy your self a nice used 98 for 60k or so.

Hey a BRAND NEW CRATE engine is available under 12,000
this includes all new acessories (A/C Power sterring etc).
You need to consider that when determining "fair" value!
