OMIGOSH! WHERE DID YOU FIND THAT CAM? THAT IS THE BADDEST CAM ON THIS SIDE OF THE MISSISSIPPI!

its OK, if you have matching heads. Crower doesn't have the best profiles, but if its worth saving a couple of hundred bucks...

Hahahaha!!

Well, what do you mean "its OK, if you have matching heads."? If I have OK heads and this OK cam, I will get great numbers? Or just OK numbers? Either way, I still want to be able to pass Cali smog, but don't want to put this cam in if there is much better for a bit more.

So what could I expect performance-wise out of this cam? Assume I will do heads and headers later.

Thanks

You are doing a cam before head/headers? What's the rush? I would do headers first. Then do the heads/cam at the same time. (or ideally, do all three at the same time).

Good price on the cam.

Mark, I'm really interested in this idea as well. Have you found out how aggressive you can go with a cam and still pass in CA for certain?

:)

Mark,

Is the stated duration at .050 (50 thousands) lift? If it is you will NOT want to use this cam for your Viper. A cam with this much duration (at .050) is a drag racing cam. If you try to use this cam on your car, you will find that 1) the stock computer will not be able to idle the engine, 2) the power brakes will not work, and 3) if you could get the car to idle, it would idle at about 2500 RPM, 4) it will overheat your cats.

As far as performance, if you replace your stock computer (which tries to make the car idle at about 700 rpm) with an AEM or other controller, you could overcome some of the problems. But a cam with this duration is meant to be used in a drag car where the engine runs between 4000 and 8000 rpm. With a street car and stock heads the cam will be an absolute dog.

Think about it, the stock Viper cam has about 218 degees of duration at .050 lift. My 542 with GTS-R heads uses a 233 degree (at .050 lift) duration cam and has a very rough idle.

I hope this helps.

I've seen that cam on their website. That is the advertised duration, not @ .050". It's not that big of a cam.

If that's advertised duration, I would personally don't bother to put it in my car. Thoose values are just above stock.
