SAFETY RECALL NO. 979 5-POINT RACING SEAT BELT HARNESS

Models:
1998 [SR] Dodge Viper GTS2 Commemorative Edition
1999-2001 [SR] Dodge Viper ACR

Subject:
The 5-point <u> racing</u> seat belt harnesses on about 550 of the above vehicles may not meet the minimum FIA load specifications. FIA is an independent race-sanctioning agency. This can result in an increased risk of injury in certain racing accident conditions, as a belted occupant may not be properly restrained. The standard three-point seat belt harness is not affected by this recall.

GTS2 & ACR Owners if you have replaced your 5-point belts already, either through me or my buddy [jonb], when you get your recall card there is a box to check off that the work has all ready been performed and mail it back to DC.

Update on Recall #979:
I just got the first set of belts using the Recall Part #CBAB9791. I opened the box and to my dismay they were not "RJS" belts, witch are in production on 2002 ACR's.
What was in the box were "Breed Technology" belts? They have the FIA Rating, and they have the ACR logo on the shoulder straps, but no Viper Logo on the release. [Like the RJS's have]
Also the Breed's are one-third the cost [Dealers] of the RJS's! Old Mr. DC pulls another one?? If you thought you were not going to get complaints about this - may I be the FIRST one up to bat!

So that means if you [ACR Owners] have not replaced the 5-point belts already [RJS or Team Techs] you can now only replace them [free] with the Breed Technology belts under this Recall!

Chuck, do they look worse than the belts I'm replacing. My new belts should be here early next week from Chuck. I will post about the belts once they arrive.

I own a GT2. If we get the new replacement belts do we have to return the ones that came with the car?

Tony - Don't get me wrong, the belts from "Breed Technolgy" look <u> Good !</u> [:No cute little Viper logo on release"] FIA RATED! Better then almost four years of unsafe rated belts that were in production?[momo]

"Team Tech" belts are <u> Good !</u> [5 or 6 point & choice of color!]

The point of all of this is that DC is using JRS [Top Shelf] belts in production, and they choose to use a middle shelf [not to be-little] belt for their "Recall"?

If you haven't replaced your 5-points, you now can only get the "Breed Technology" belts from DC.. NO CHOICE!!

For your "1998 GST2 Commemorative Edition" you <u> GET</u> "Recall" Part #CBA39792 ~ and the discription says ~ "RED" ?

I don't know what you would get??

Jerry as per the recall all belts that are taken out have to be returned to DC.So no one gets to keep there belts anymore.I'm trying to work things out so I can perform this recall at all the viper days event.So this way the acr's running can have the safe belts in them.I'll post when I get the final word from DC

My GT2 will never be raced - at least as long as I own it. I would like to keep all of the stock parts, so I guess I have to keep the belts that are in the car and not do the swap.

OK, I've been talking to Detroit or should I say I have been voicing my opinion.

I may be able to fight on your behalf if you realy want the "RJS" belts.
"Team Techs" are definitely out.
