It\'s the little things in life...

A month ago I posted a question asking where I could get vehicle dollies. Got several answers. Thanks Tony Armour for the lead. If anyone is interested you can get them at http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=38959

It would have been a hassle to find these without the internet.

It going to be so much easier to leave my Viper on jacks and move it to the side to pull my other Viper in. Gawd why does life have to be so difficult? Well, it just got a little easier.

Couldn't just say "It'll be so much easier to move the Viper now." could you? You just HAD to mention the second viper...

Hey Bonk, life is tough enough without you coming down on me. Every time I need to work on one of my two Vipers I need to move my truck out of the driveway, then pull one Viper out onto the driveway, then pull the other Viper out of the garage so I can pull it back into the center of the garage so I can work on it. It’s a real b*tch man. You guys with only one Viper, or in your case Bonk, no Viper, don’t know how good you have it. These little car dollies are going to make my miserable life so much better.

And think about it. I can leave whichever of my two Vipers I’m working on, on jackstands! At the end of the day I don’t need to lower one Viper off jacks and pull it out of the garage and pull it back into one side of the garage so I can pull my other Viper in along side of it. Instead I can just leave one Viper on jackstands and push it to the side to pull my other Viper in along side of my Viper on jackstands.

Chuck,

The pictures look like those dollies are meant to have tires placed in them. Are you planning on setting the jack stands in them? Are you welding them in? How will you get one of your two Vipers up on the jack stands which are sitting in the dolly?

What am I missing here?

I'm gonna use plates of steel, bend the edges for strength and bolt it to the dolly using the same holes as the casters.

Or maybe I'll just buy some adapters for $50/4. There's a company in Cali that makes them.

Yes!...we use them at the Northeast Classic Car museum in Norwich NY to move the display cars around when it is not practical to push them. They are painted purple and work great on most tires. They are available in many auto supply magazines or on the internet. Griots Garage for example has them. They even work on the very large tires such as on the Duesenbergs and Packards. They might not work on such wide tires as on the rear of the Vipers though. Although, it seems I remember seeing an ad for them recently where they indicated they have made an "extra-wide" version of them. If it is for the Viper, make sure they will work before you buy them because if the tire is just too wide, the jack will not pick it up off the floor safely. Good luck!
