My key fob (with a new battery to verify) does not chirp the car anymore. It stopped working while the car was in the body shop sitting without a battery (car) for a while. Is there a way to get it operational again without having to go to the dealer? I tried just holding both buttons for 30 seconds - but does the key need to be on, does that method even work?

Long time gone, Jason

There is syncronizing and programming. Two different things.

For syncronizing (refreshing) the fob that has already been programmed to match the alarm unit in your car just press both lock and unlock buttons together at the same time for 5 to 10 seconds and you will get a "chirp" out of it. (No key in the ignition)

For programming there is the DRB method or use the instructions Ron has posted. You can program up to 4 fobs for use on your car but they have to all be programmed together, inthe same session.

You still got the Blue/White car?

Does your second remote work or is it problem with just one of them?

Keep in mind that if nothing seems to be working on the alarm that Some of us with 96-97 GTS cars have had the alarm module replaced under warranty. Problem was an alarm lockup or lockout. The replacement is a 98 style module that also comes with the new style fobs. Your old fobs will also work with the 98 module.
The 98 module works a bit different, for example, when you unlock the car the 97 would sound the horn but the 98 only flashes the parking lights.
