I was driving on a major interstate in VA and while i was in the fast lane, the Viper was struck by a rock and subsequently cracked. I made the claim with my insurance company and a glass company who says they searched high and low and could find no dealerships in the country with the windshield for my 97 GTS ????

Has anyone had their windshield replaced on their Gen II's? If so, where did you get the windshield and who did you use?

Would be so much easier to bring to the Wizard and have it installed while having the frame recall done at the same time ;)

Any information is appreciated...

Sorry to hear about the vindshield. There is another member in PA unable to get a new windshield and this has been going on for months... (He actually got one eventually, but the shipper busted it.)

My windshield in my brand new GTS leaked like crazy, I mean, you could fill a cup af water through it. Had it replaced by Orlando Dodge 407-299-1212 in Orlando FL. This was probably around april '02, so I don't know if it helps. Fixed the leak, always been a little worried about rust though.

I have had 2 done in the last 3 years and they were done by Safelite. The last one was in June 04 it was $620.10...but it took 2 weeks for them to get the glass.

Call Safelite 800-800-2727 and reference my job # 519199 or call the local Safelite that did the install in Stamford CT 203-324-6650, ask for Justine.

$620.10 installed. no magic.

Paid $436.00 last year to have the windshield replaced at my office. Got quotes from 1200 down to 436.00. Be careful, everyone tries to levy the Viper tax. B@stards!

Something to keep in mind when shopping for windshields is a lot of the cheap stuff is thin, making it more prone to future cracking. That could explain the big difference in pricing.

Re: May need the Wizard on this one!!!!! No available Windshield for Gen II

When looking for my windshield many people told me they could get it and quoted a price. (Including safelight) When they went to actually get them, they were "unavailable". I must have ordered 4 of them, only to have them call me back and say "sorry, we can't get it...have you tried the dealer?" Yes I did. And the dealer said "We can't get it, have you tried the glass companies? Thats who we use". I ended up finding one, but they to called me back and said the price they quoted was wrong. It would be about $100 higher.....

You guys are not going to believe this! I am in a REAL bind.

So the glass company (Royal Auto Glass) comes out today around 2:30. The man seems really nice and is taking his time to get things done correctly. He begins to remove things and all is going well. He removes the cracked windshield and cleans up the new windshield. He said he didn't feel comfortable laying the new windshield on the car and that he didn't want to scratch the paint or crack the new windshield and asked if i didn't mind to give him a hand on the other end. I replied sure. We went to put the windshield on the car and line it up with the bottom placement tabs that the windshield rests on and when it was placed on them the windshield was about 1" too short! Im like ***. I believe they brought out a windshield for the RT-10  I specifically told them over the phone that it needs to be for the GTS and that all other places that were checked with did not have the windshield and could not get it! They said we can get it and will be there tomorrow. I was leary and knew it was too good to be true. The windshield that was removed was busted up really good when removed and could not be placed back on, the new windshield didn't fit and to make a long story short, i have the Viper in the garage with no damn windshield

So i call the company back and tell them what is going on, they put me on hold and tell me that they are trying to located the windshield and are hoping to have it overnighted IF they can find one. They are supposed to call me in the morning.

I have a feeling that im going to be stuck w/o the windshield for a while and also out of the $500 i had to pay! I may have to take you up on the windshield if all else fails.

Frustrated as hell, dont deal with Royal Auto Glass!!!!!

Hey Mike,
There is plenty of windshields in stock! Call:
"SafeLite Auto Glass" 800-800-2727
MSRP $1450.00

Safelite is the first windshield company i contacted and set up an appointment with. They called me back and told me that they called every dealership in the country and also tried every aftermarket supplier and could not get one!

Thanks for the help....

Hey Mike I'm the one from Pa that Lauri was talking about and I've been waiting a month now and finally supposed to have it put in today. They shipped 2 prior to this one and the shipping company broke both of them. I just had the window replaced 3 months ago and had this one broken coming home from Chryslers at Carlisle. It splattered glass all over myself and my wife. I was glad to be wearing sun glasses. What a mess
Well hopefully today is the day :2tu:

When I took my old windshield out I too noticed that the windshield rested about 1/2 " (not quite 1 inch as you mentioned) above the bottom tabs you refered to. I have an RT/10, but just thought I'd mention that it was not resting "on" the tabs before I removed it....

Well I just got word the window is for an R/T 10 the wrong one came in.Looks like I'll be waiting another week or two. She said they called the dealers in the area and they can't get them.
By the way safe-lite windshields as I was told are 1/16 x 1/16 and OEM are 1/8 x 1/8 with laminate

Re: May need the Wizard on this one!!!!! No available Windshield for Gen II

Update #2

So the same guy shows up this morning with yet another windshield, it is a Mopar factory windshield of which i am very happy with.

He preps the edges with primer and sealant, we set the windshield on the Viper and luckily the windshield is correct and it sets on the tabs at the bottom like it is supposed to. He puts the cowl back on and the windshield wipers and tightens everything down. He cleans everything up and is rubbing the hell out of one area on the windshield on the passenger side at the top. I ask him "Sir, is everything okay?" he says, "Ummm, i need you to come over to this side and take a look!" I go over to that side and look at the glass and there are two long 12" scratches one above each other. Kind of makes me wonder if he would have told me about it if i didn't see him in action. He says that they had two windshields delivered overnight and that he has the other one at the shop and will look it over tonight and probably be back out on Monday morning

This is the biggest fiasco with these people. At least if it's not raining on Sunday, i will be able to make it out to Bull Run, VA for the Viper Meet with my lovely scratched windshield

There is a Correction to the glass company being used, it is Diamond Auto Glass company, not Royal Auto Glass!

KER-VPR , sounds like your having about as much luck as i am, good luck buddy!
