Mechanic can\'t solve Problem

I recently had a rebuild. Car came back and Battery Discharge light was on and car was missing a little in all gears. Took car back and mechanic is having a tough time figuring out the problem. He put in a new Optima battery and the light went out briefly. Then came back on. He changed the wires for the other problem, and it did not resolved that problem. He thinks the PCM may be bad. Was fine before the rebuild. Car is running great other than that. Starts no problem, etc. But, I heard he left frustrated last night. Any thoughts as to the problem would be appreciated. I have been without the car for 4 months now. Want my baby back.

I would DEFINATLY say alternator as well, especially when it came to "missing in gears" and "was OK after battery change...for a while" Have them check the charging system and check all fuses, and for faulty wiring. Starting really isnt the issue, as you can start MANY times on a battery. Starting requires Amps. However, ignition coils require a constant voltage, not reliant on amperage. Your battery can have a severe voltage drop, while still retaining enough amperage to turn over an engine. Your car basically runs off your anternator, not the battery, for anything beyond starting.

Who rebuilt what????? Did a Dodge dealer work on your vehicle???? If so, then it is a simple matter of putting a DRB on the vehicle and checking what the problem is.

Re: Mechanic can\'t solve Problem

He said he checked the alternator and it was good. He said it is reading 14Volts. I just told him to check it again. He thinks it may be the "distributor lift ignition" or PCM. The Battery discharge light was off after battery install and then 5 minute ride. When he got back to the shop it was on again.

He is going to check all the plugs again to see if something happened to them between Arrow and here. He said fuses all are fine and wires are new. But, running worse and worse.

Thanks

Re: Mechanic can\'t solve Problem

Arrow Rebuild and installed by Dodge Mechanic. I am not sure what a DRB is? Excuse the ignorance. I talked to him yesterday and he pulled all the "new" plugs and found two contacts bent. He pulled them and replaced. Belief is the connection from the alternator to the PCM or PCM is Bad (discharge light). I have not heard back from him. I thought you could hook these cars up to software and it would tell you problems? It's a 94 though, maybe not that year. Thanks

Listen to what Rich Carlson says. He IS Mr. Viper in these parts. Surely the thing is setting codes that can be read with a scan tool. Also, did Arrow do the rebuild?
