I am getting ready to order a MGW First Strike Shifter Knob. The manual shows you having to take the console off, etc. to get to the nut on the shifter below the boot on a GTS. Will the boot stretch over the nut without tearing or should I remove the console?

Yes, you'll be able to pull the boot down far enough. I have the First Strike knob with the satin snake head finish. You can adjust the height a little by not turning the shifter knob itself down all the way, then tighten the back screw with the A-wrench to lock in place.

I just picked up mine as well. However, I am thinking about raising it up as high as it will go. Is it me or is it easier to shift with longer shaft? Man that sounds kinda corny...

I just put the first strike knob in the SRT10 and I don't like the hardness and slickness of the handle....I will probably go with MGW's round knob or make/get a shorter shaft for the stock knob.

I installed mine by just carefully pulling boot down and it worked fine. I am not that crazy about the knob though and find that the lower shifting point is a great improvement, the feel of the knob leaves much to be desired imo. I have contacted Doug Whalen who makes really nice heavy custom ss knobs for bmw's. The extra weight improves the ease of shifting and the knobs are so nice to feel and can be engraved with almost anything. He is researching and I am hoping to have a prototype soon. Will certainly post pics then. Here is a pic in my old car. Knob weighs 120z if I remember correctly. John
