Just recieved my MGW license plate holder and shift knob for my Hurst/Mopar shifter.

As expected the MGW parts are incredibably well finished-

Problem is the thread on the MGW knob is about half the diameter of the screw thread on the shifter.

Did the Mopar shifter change design, mines about 5 weeks old?

I will call MGW in the morning but I wondered if anyone else had the same problem, the thread on the Mopar looks about the same as stock.

I was wondering about the same thing prior to ordering one.......my shift knob is about 2 months old and I don;t think the design has changed. Keep us informed of the outcome.

The Hurst shifter is the problem. They use a different thread than the stock Viper shifter. That is why they provide a knob for "free". :p

THIS HAS BECOME A VERY MESSY SITUATION BECAUSE THE SHIFTERS HAVE CHANGED...

for some reason some of the mopar shifters have a 3/8-16 thread in them. these are the shifters that those little black plastic fangs knobs go on. they have a much smaller thread.

we learned this the hard way assuming a few months back that the shifter would accept the factory knob which is does not.

well apparently hurst decided at some point to change the shaft so that it accepts the factory threads but we have no idea which model our customers get.

so to make sure there are not any problems WAIT until you recieve your shifter before ordering a knob and check to see if your factory knob will screw on. if it will then just order a standard srt10 gripper from us. if it just falls on then the shaft on your hurst is the smaller 3/8" thread and you will need to buy our srt10 RAM/HURST shift knob.

hope this helps.

Had a call from MGW this morning, I am sending back the Knob and they are shipping me a new one.

The MGW is far superior than the small knob that came (for an extra 30 dollars) with the Hurst.

the hurst shifter uses a 1/2-20 threaded shift knob. Viper Sneaky Pete Logo knobs come in Black with the logo colors of Red, Blue, Silver, & Yellow availble. You can also use a White Hurst knob with black etched 6-speed in it. There is also a Compitition Shift Knob availble. To see these click on our links below.

the hurst shifters also come in a 3/8-16" thread as i have several customers who have this shifter. they need to check before ordering any knob. and with all due respect making an unrelated thread converted to an advertisement for your company is not very polite :(

I love the way everything on your website is labeled as AtRo Racing's _________. For instance a Hurst Shifter is not a Hurst Shifter on your site but an AtRo Racing shifter. It's a real hoot. Great product ****/thread hijack by the way. :2tu:

Now I am getting a little frustrated- I ordered the MGW ball because it looks great and was "designed" to fit my Hurst.

I get the ball - looks great does not fit.

I send back to MGW at my cost

I am charged an additional $20 and a couple of days later recieve a standard Ball on a 4/5 inch stem (that must be where the $20 comes in).The ball is significantly smaller in diameter(it fits but does not look as good as the MGW Hurst knob)

Sort of defeats the point of the short shifter- this is the normal replacement for a stock shifter IT IS NOT DESIGNED FOR THE HURST!I put the plastic hurst ball back on.

I would have been better of to Tap out the first one they sent me. Not sure what to do next.Don't feel like paying for shiping again.

Rich,

this is as frustrating for me as it is you. i have 3 other cusotmers that have the csame dilema.

1. one guy like you wants a shorter knob. like the hurst,( oh and by the way the knob diamter is the same its the same exact ball. )

2. one guy loves it.

3. one guy is sending it back for the taller knob????

i think i may have vto actually offer 3 hewights to fit every need.

if you want to go thru the hassle of mailing it back one more time i will tap out one of the hurst shrot stems. credit you back the 20 bucks and ship it back for free.

let me know if this will work. i want this thing to be right!!!!

George, thanks for the reply. Not sure why I thought it was smaller- I guess it was the shaft that threw me off.

What I propose is that you tap out a Hurst Shifter and charge me for it (but not shipping)and ship it to me and I will also keep the one I recieved today (and is paid for).

Then I will save the shiping back to you and will have paid for two shifters with very different looks and feel.

Its a pity I can not try the shifter out- but the Viper is on jack stands while I install my Paxton.

Please use the credit card info you have on file

Thanks

Rich

George at MGW is taking care of me.

I will post pics of both Shifter Knobs after the holidays- shorty and tall on the Hurst shifter.
