MGW Shifter - Highly Recommended

In a prior post, I mentioned that a prototype MGW shifter was one of the improvements that made up the Woodhouse Performance Edition improvements made to my 2006 SRTC which, among other mods, has a 2008 transmission.
Since then, based on comments by Mark J. and me, George has refined the shifter a bit for use with the 2008 transmission. I received the revised prototype shifter yesterday and had it installed today. I think that one word describes it: FANTASTIC. It is crisp and tight. Everything that one would want if one wanted to lawfully go through the gears in a spirited manner.

For those who do not know what a shifter is, it is the mechanism below the shifting handle that connects to the transmission. The MGW shifter is far superior to the stock shifter.

MGW is indeed excellent.

I have one of their shifters installed on the T-56 in my 2004 Cobra.

Is the Viper MGW shifter the entire mechanism or just the shift ball and stalk it sits on?

The Cobra shifter replaces the entire standard ford shifter with a short throw mechanism.

The shifter is the mechanism that is between the knob and the transmission. I have an MGW First Strike Racing Knob with the six speed pattern attached to the shifter. The full name of the shifter is the MGW Viper Performance Shifter. George/MGW has applied for a patent for it. It is a very nice piece of work.

Installation of the MGW performance shifter, as wll as any other shifter, is most efficiently done on a lift from underneath the car. If your transmission mount is harder, like mine, it will take a bit longer. I had it installed by an excellent Viper tech at University Dodge.

I still have the stock shifter in the mamaba... Does the MGW shifter give a stiff and notchy feeling when compared to the stock shifter? Stock already feels stiff and notchy...

I Tried the ripper and hurst shifters in my corvette and hated it:crazy2: It was way to stiff and notchy for my liking so I went with a modified stock shifter.

If the modified stock shifter is the one from Woodhouse with the tighter springs, it is a good piece. I had it on my car before changing to the new MGW shifter. It's a personal preferance but I prefer the MGW shifter. I believe it provides better certainty and, therefore, confidence while rapidly shifting. If you do not need to rapidly shift while accelerating in a lawful and spirited manner, then you probably do not need to change out the shifter. Woodhouse and MGW collaborated to produce the new MGW shifter.
