Daily driver of course!! I have 71,000 miles
on my 96 GTS.This car has been heavily modified since 2500
miles. On my 117th bottle of Nitrous..no problems
worth mentioning! This car is your basic "bulletproof" daily driver!!!

I would bet that if you are able to get a ride in a Viper this weekend, you will no longer have any doubt in your mind! You will have only one mission, which will be, "I have got to get a Viper"! Seeing them occasionally, hearing about them, etc. is nothing like driving and owning one! You will have to have one!
You should be able to get into a very nice Gen II with nice miles (10k or so), for around $50-53k, but you will have to look around and hope to find a great deal. Also, with the 2003 coming you might find some people getting ready to sell. Then again, summer is near, time to drive not sell.
Have fun this weekend!

You really need to get someone to take you for a spin in the Viper...I was driving a 911 Turbo when I got my first ride in a GTS and that was it for me..Had to have it...Bye Bye Porsche...I've had mine for a year with no problems at all and it's more fun now than the day I got it...

and after you modify your vette, you'll continue to admire the viper and wonder "what if"....

First problem....you say "invest" 20k in performance mods.
You would be lucky to get 20 cents on the dollar in return!
Second problem...if you have to ask this question, on this board, then that's a definite problem!!! It's a NO BRAINER..
BUY A VIPER!!!

You should definetly get a used Viper. So much better looking, and as fast if not faster then a modded Vette. Plus the Viper probably isn't going to depreciate too much more. 4 years ago low mile roadsters were selling for 40k and they still are. I have a 97 GTS for sale in Houston. Asking 55k. 15k miles, totally stock.

I was in a similar situation to you. My choice was to purchase either a brand new 2000 Corvette or a used Viper. I chose the Viper and glad that I did. Purchased a 1997 GTS blue with white stripes 11K miles in perfect condition. I drive it everyday, in fact it is my daily driver. I was surprised how comfortable it is to drive, even with all the regular street traffic. I have a short dive to work about 10 miles each way. If you do buy a Viper plan on upgrading the exhaust, the stock exhaust really does not do it justice.

After you mod your Corvette you may have a very mean and fast vett on your hands, but nobody will know except for you! Unless of course you do the occasional street race. With a Viper, everybody who sees it knows that it can eat up every other car on the road.

Corvette = nice car, good performance, over 1,000,000 total made
Viper = bad a$$ car, terrific performance, less than 15,000 total made

I was in the same situation.
New vette or used viper?
I wound up buying a "new" (only 410 miles) 1996 GTS a month ago.
Other choice was the new Z06. I probably paid about the same as i would have for the new Z06. I have never looked back.
Whatever you decide, have fun and be safe.
