There was an interesting comment on changing oil last week. Someone recommended draining the oil overnight, in an attempt to get more old oil out of the engine. I changed the oil yesterday and measured the residual that drained after the initial draining.
I let the oil drain for five minutes, I then drained the remainder into a measuring vessel. In the fist two hours an additional 3/4 pint of oil drained. In another eight hours, a 1/4 pint drained. It sure is interesting that a full pint of oil can be extracted after a typical oil change.
I added oil carefully to make sure I hit the full mark on the dipstick. The car was completely level. The car is a 97. The manual indicates a capacity of eight quarts. It took exactly nine quarts to hit the full mark. .
