I'm looking to possibly purchase a 1992 Viper. It will be my first viper and need a few opinions. There are a couple of them available that I'm aware of. One has 8800 mi. and is priced at $36k and other has 11000 mi and is priced at $39K. Of course, the higher priced of the two is close by and the other is a couple thousand mi away. Anyway, for the money, how could I go wrong? I would think that there can't be much more depreciation in the future. Just not sure about having a Viper with no A/C! Also, I understand the softtop is a pain in the butt. But it is a rare car. I only intend to drive the car in nice weather, but does anyone have any experience as to how hot the inside of the car gets? I've read that the engine can put out some real heat and I dont want to roast/toast my friends when I give them a ride. Okay, what is the general consensus on the 92's? I don't want to spend more than $40k on any Viper at the moment, until I truly get bit. Need opinions quick as I'm gonna make a decision in a couple days. Thanks, Gerald

I am looking at 94s and 95s, and those prices are above what I would pay.

Check Ebay's completed auctions for examples of what people are willing to pay. You'll be hard pressed to find any Gen I's with bids over $33k-$35k. Not that ebay is the end-all indicator of value, but still... it's a buyers market. hold out.

Gerald- I added AC to my car. It was uncomfortable for me. Softtop is no different than any RT10, once you get to know how to handle it, I think you could live with it. Both cars you listed are not considered low mileage cars for 92. But both are listed in the same range as a similar 94. So I think they should hold their value. There were some recall issues for 92's. It would help to know the history of the cars, to see if the work has been done. We could continue this conversation by e-mail [email protected] if need be.
