Re: new coupe

the rumor is yes there will be a 2007 ACR. if its true i dont know.
if there is, this is what i hope they do, make 625 HP (from the carbon concept) and a scoop for the rear brakes, use the competetion coupe hood, make the interior a little bit different (so you can tell the difference), new wheels (like the old ACR ones).
if they do all of those main things then the new ACR (if it comes out) it will be awesome :2tu:

Re: new coupe

A new ACR would be a real nice car i think. Hopefully, if they build it they will make up for the disappointments from the keep and take the opportunity to make it blow away the closet competition. :2tu:

Re: new coupe

Maybe the long termers can correct me if I am wrong, but the ACR package didn't really go over that well on the GTS. Most racers didn't use the BBS wheels, stock brakes or suspension if they raced often. So why pay the extra $10k when the parts would just end up in the garage anyway?

Makes me think that DC will either come out with a much more serious and usable package, or none at all.

Re: new coupe

There is NO CHANCE WHAT SO EVER with the current make-up of this FOREIGN RUN company that an ACR will appear. Unbelievable.

Wrong.

There is NO CHANCE that Dodge will leave the Viper alone for 2007, without some performance improvements ... this may not be great for a 2005 owner like me, but you can take it to the bank that the 2007 will have a few performance upgrades (ACR, or not) ... there's no way I'd buy a 2006, for this reason

... on the otherhand you can bet that GM has shot their *** on the C6 Z06, that's it, nothing will be coming out for a while now ... money needs to be spent on their other cars now ... (No Blue devil, No Way, No How ... it's an unfunded dream)

Gosh, Safireviper, I would almost bet that with the current makeup of the SRT Team ( younger than ever and tons with race backgrounds ) that the chance the ACR will make a return is better than ever. I am just praying for some killer Motons, Quaife, adjustable sway bars, etc., to complete the dream package.

Re: new coupe

There is a new ACR SRT-4, I doubt that DC will pass up the chance to leverege the American Club Racer name.

My only worry is that they will NOT offer the big bump in power, and they just do some mild tuning and cosmetic tweaks and have it become just another collector's edition.

But if they DO actually come through with a 600HP+ ACR version to set the Viper back on it's proper place in the performance car food chain, then all will be forgiven.

I'm hoping that DC is embarassed enough by all of the fantastic reviews on the Ford GT and upcoming C6 Z06 Corvette that they raise the Viper's HP and come out with a truly potent 2007 ACR Viper.

Re: new coupe

GM has tweaked the LS7 powerplant to it's fullest but has already announced the LS9 for 2008, 600hp. Also calling anything under the Vette program an unfunded dream is kinda funny considering how much money goes into that program.

Re: new coupe

I agree with Mr. Pemberton. The major reason I am not at the plate for a 2006 is because I hope that we will see an ACR or up the horsepower for the 2007 car.

Re: new coupe

If they make an ACR I wouldn't expect them to increase the horsepower.

I WOULD expect it to have upgraded suspension, diff., etc. as Bill says.

I'd pay extra for that. That's expensive stuff to do aftermarket.

I'm all for more HP but spinning tires alone doesn't do it for me. Just bolt on a paxton for that... $10K with installation.

Improve the HANDLING and drivetrain reliability, IMHO.

... You mean how much GM money "used to" go into that program ... SUV / Truck sales are tanking ... Hummer H2s are going for under 40K now with discounts ... and 'new' C6 Vettes are sitting on dealer lots ... GM's big Corvette investment days are fading fast ...

... btw, do I hear "Go HTH Red Devils"?

I hope you're right........

BUT no one would have guessed Dodge would just sit by and let Corvette get even and very well eclipse the Viper in performance. As for as GM "Shooting their ***" it doesn't take much engineering or $$$ to drop in dish pistons and slap on a blower that has been on LS1's for 5yrs now.

Only time will tell what DC has instore.....

Re: new coupe

Viperman,

First off... The Red Devils Rule. Now...

The factory sponsored Corvette Racing Program is very extensive. Also at least in this area C6's are not sitting on the lots. They actually still go for full invoice. GM effectively got rid of their entire 05 inventory with the Employee Discount Program. Most likely to their detriment for the third quarter but none the less they moved a ton of inventory. More than Ford or DCX. Also it's impressive that their Corvette group has already announced the 2008 powerplants. We didn't even know the specs for the 2006 coupe until 60 days from launch with the Viper group.

I hope there is an ACR upgrade or just a general upgrade for 2007. But it would be nice to see some news prior to Sept. 2006. The downside of an upgrade is that it kinda shafts the 06 buyers.

Go Red Devils.

Re: new coupe

It was posted on GM Inside News. I will look for the link. Sorry but I have no plans on selling the GTS. I know you like to keep your group small and any thinking beyond the Viper is frowned upon.

I wasn't aware when I bought the Viper I had to shun all other vehicles ever made. I guess I missed the fine print on the sales contract.

P.S. I still like the SRT and it's gets more thumbs up I imagine than any vette ever will. Simply discussing the competition but I will stop. Just like DCX has.

C6 Vettes are sitting on lots here in Texas ... boy, the hype sure wore off fast ... hehe (buy a Vette at your own risk)

Re: new coupe

It's not surprising that they are sitting on lots, just not here for some reason. The C6's so far have had a lot of bugs from what I have read. But then again most new models do. The depreciation on vettes is also a killer regardless of generation. Another benefit of owning a Viper.

I was looking at a Silver Mamba recently. Probably my favorite SRT made. Neat ride.
