I PICKED UP A COPY OF THE NEW MAG 0-60 TODAY AS IT
HAD THE NEW 2008 VIPER ON ITS COVER. NOT ALOT OF
NEW INFO BUT NICE REVIEW.

2008 VIPER 0-60 3.8 SECONDS:rolleyes:

THEY NEED A DRIVER, LOL.

THE C6Z06 WAS 3.6 VS THE NEW VIPER BEING 3.8:omg:

2008 VIPER CAN AND WILL DO
BETTER!!!!!!!!!!

THE RAGS NEED SOMEONE WHO
CAN DRIVE WITHOUT GRANNY
CONTROLS, ONLY THEN WILL
WE HAVE REAL TIMES OF WHAT
THE VIPER CAN DO.

Apparently that's a new magazine catering to performance vehicles. I think this 600 hp Viper will be best showcased in longer sprints such as 0-100. It does require some experience and skill to manage all that hp and wheelspin. Once the tires are hooked, watch out!

From where are you quoting the Z06 time? It's not valid for comparison unless it was done by the same magazine (driver) under the same conditions (i.e. head-to-head) ... no way the Z06 can run with the '08 Viper.

I liked that they said it was painfully faster than a GT3. I really liked the article as they addressed the undue hatred toward the Viper and practially called the haters pu$$!e$.

ViperBilliam,

I agree with you, this month's Road & Track features the Hennesey Viper vs. pretty much anything out there (including the Bugatti Veyron) in a 0-200 mph shootout and their comment about an 06 Viper was:

"Steve Millen describes it best: "Holy Hell! This is a wild ride. It just wants to go sideways in every gear. When you're taking off, you've got to be very careful with the throttle. In 2nd , you've got to still be careful. It'll take a bit more throttle in 3rd. When you put in 4th, you can go flat [out], but I had it snap loose with wheelspin. It's not until the middle of 4th gear that the Viper is really hooking up, producing lots of horseppower and torque."

I think we'll not find many journalists with enough drag racing experience to pedal a car to what the '08 Viper can actually do, let alone be at a track where they'll get good traction and sadly that is where cars with some sort of stability and traction control will post better times than the Viper.

I think the biggest indicator of good the '08 Viper is will be when they actually do lap times and that's when you'll see how fast the Viper really is!!

Regards,
Aaron

I never go by magazine articles especially Road and Track, unless its some stupid import especially BMW, they always rag american muscle, BMW's are always faster in the Rags but slower on a real track, but which would you rather have? I'm sure the 600 horse Viper is good for low 11's in the 1/4, with an average driver, if you can get it to hook, main problem with any car over 500hp is traction. I can personal attest to trying to get a 600 hp car out of the hole, even on drag radials its frustrating, and a great task. Still dont count out the Z06, the car is very light ,geared perfect and is much closer to 550 hp than 500(they gave it more power(torque) for 2008, but to my surprize didnt advertize it, it is very underated as were the Gen 2 Vipers, the new Viper should still take it, drivers being equal. But does it really mater?, how many Viper and vette owners who actually race their cars keep them stock?, I never lost a race to a Viper in my built Z06, as I dont expect to lose to Z06's when I get my Viper(once its built)but I always keep in mind that there is always somebody faster, who cares, just enjoy your cars, forget about what the rags say, and forget about comparisons with the Z06, I have never let the Viper/Vette thing get to me, they are both American Muscle, and if I want to go faster I make the car faster.

They have been advertising 0-60 times for the 08 Viper for months now, I have seen 3.6 to 3.8, all estimated times. I just dont think 0-60 means that much, hell the 07 911 can do it in 3.5 at times, but the 08 Viper will walk it down in the 1/4 mile.
Remember, 600 hp and higher shift points and better tranny...I dont think there is anything stock under $400,000k that will touch the 08 Viper.

Hey Guy's (and gals!) ... I attended to same meet with GCSRT8. I had the chance to ride in the 08 Roadster, a factory mule that will be chrushed (YUK!). One of the SRT Engineers was driving. The car had the new PS-2's ... We ran it around the Memphis road course. WOW, what a car.

I have a 06 VOI 9 car with Bellanger Headers and Exhaust, Aluminum Flywheel, K&N Filters and Box, X-Metal Throttle Body, DC Computer and 3:55 gears ... The 08 will leave my car in the dust in it's "stock" fashion.

B767DRIVER also attended and had a chance to ride. I can't speak to the performance numbers and our friends for SRT were tight lipped about it, but I assure you, after driving the Z06 and riding in the 08 for a full 20 minute run session, the Z06 WILL NOT run with the 08 Snake! Just one rookie's observation ...

You good folks who have a 08 on order will not be disappointed! If I did not love my White with Blue stripes color combo so much, I would buy one from Bill P at Woodhouse today!!!

Also asked to SRT guy's what we will do when the Blue Devil hits the street ... They just smiled and said, "Stand By" ...

There you have it ... It's one strong car!!! :)

Ha, good to hear the SRT guys are finally going to wake up to the real competition threat out there and keep the Viper on the top of the charts.

:omg: I have alway wondered why they destroy these factory mule cars. It seems to me they should be put in the Chrysler museum or auctioned off or something.:2tu: It is just a shame that they are destroyed    would they not also be a collectors item?:dunno: :2tu:

Ask Chris.... they're about to (or maybe already have) smashed up the Stealth Carbon Concept Viper from a few years back. :(

Can't we get someone on the inside to swap it out with a honda or something right before the smash? In cube form, they all look the same. No one will ever know... except for a couple thousand VCA members. :D

Yep, seems silly to destroy such awesome machines. The SRT crew told us is was all about the Chrysler lawyers ... Could not sell or give any vehicle to the public for road use that was deemed a "test car" ...

Told them I promise I would only drive it on the track ... Did not work ... :(

i don't know exactly why they smash them, but i read in a mag once that they do it largely for TAX purposes. in other words, it lets them write of tons of cash to r&d. since the car doesn't exist anymore. i would assume anyone RECEIVING the car would assume a huge tax liability if dodge wrote it off as a giveaway. then the irs would prob wanna tax the person who got it. kinda like that guy getting the barry bonds ball & now he's gonna owe the irs about 150k even if he decides to just keep it.

the IRS doesn't believe in vasoline! :usa:

anyways, i believe the "IRS IS GONNA TAX ME SO BTR SMASH IT UP REAL GOOD THEORY"
mainly b/c as the one fellow already stated, it would serve MUCH btr to be in a dodge mueseum or something.

I got the issue in the mail over the weekend, I think the author really summed the Viper up well and was pretty fair and accurate. Excellent performer, awesome looks, not for the timid, 2nd rate interior, etc etc.

I love the color of their test car too.
