Hey folks,

I made the leap from BMW and Porsche to the best American Car ever made in my opinion. I love this car. Wish I had made the leap sooner, those Huns have had all the money they will ever get out of me. I have a couple neophyte Viper questions though. I have had my 06 SRT-10 Coupe for a few months now. Question 1: How do I figure out what number of how many in my color and options were made? Question 2: I know the owners manual states oil consumption to be normal during break in. I did buy this car new with 52 miles on it and now have 4,500 miles. Yes I drive it a lot. I didn't but it to stare at it sitting in the garage. Anyway seems like a bit of oil, nothing is dripping so it was burned, is this normal?:eater:

  1. I think the last Viper magazine had a pretty good breakdown of production numbers on your car
  2. Have you had the oil changed and how many times since purchase? Go see a qualified dealer with a qualified Viper Tech if you even think it's burning too much oil. How much are you talking about? Others here will chime in with other suggestions too.
  3. Thank goodness it's not a garage queen
  4. WELCOME!

It's only burned a quart. I haven't had the oil changed yet, I negotiated 8 Oil changes when I made my purchase.

If you list the color, whether or not it has stripes, and the type of wheels I can give you the information. As Venomiss stated earlier, it was in the last Viper Magazine. I have the magazine right here because I am always looking at the stats and also reading about the new 08.

One thing I found out real quick was to be sure the car was level when checking the oil. I guess with the way the oil pan is shaped (rectangular) and the placement of the dipstick, even a little bit of an angle makes a big difference.

DON'T QUOTE ME ON THIS, but I believe I saw a thread reading something like 1 qt. per 1k miles.................Is that about right? I don't recall how many qts. mine used up before it's first oil change, but it was 3/4 low on the diff. oil(due to a busted seal)! Go figure!

I have the magazine. There were 76 made in my color and wheel spoke. I want to know which of the 76 is my car. How do I determine that?

You don't.

Sure you do, and it's simple ;) . All that needs to be done is find out the addresses and phone numbers of the other 75 owners. Then you have to call or write each one and find out what their MDH numbers are. Sort those number and you have your answer!

1 Quart in 1000 miles in considered acceptable. make sure your dealer uses Mobil 1 oil in your free oil changes. My local dealer tried to switch the oil to conventional oil when he did my Mercury Marauder to save money. I caught him and raised hell.

Good luck and keep driving your viper. They should never sit in the garage like a garage queen. They were built to be driven.

btw if you have not changed oil yet you should(4500miles) you should change every 3,000-3,500miles or more often if you track the car(it is cheap insurance).

the only way to sort out the build order would be the MDH on the door sticker, FYI Vipers are not built in consecutive VIN order(with the excetion of the '98 GTS-R((GT-2 replicas)). And to further complicate the information you seek is that the cars though, built will sit in the factory for sometimes up to 4-6wks if they have minor issues or till full shipping trucks can be arranged. My guess is that the MDH will at least sort out when they came off the line.

I would think that knowing yours is one of 76 is enough to let you know you have one very rare car/color combination.

That said welcome to the wonderful world of torque, and use it in good health!

As Venomiss stated, either the last Viper magazine had the breakdown of production numbers, or there are Viper books out there also that do that. WELCOME to the world of Vipers!!!! GLAD also this is NOT a Viper that is not gonna be driven, they are MADE to be driven---and as suggested also, I'd check with a qualified Viper Tech in your area about the oil consumption...one quart does not sound like alot for the miles you put on, BUT again, we have not had to add any oil at all....you're under warranty, so I'd get it checked out just to ease your mind. Glad to have you on-board!! ENJOY!!!~~~~juli
