I wanted to introduce myself as a proud new owner of a 2013 Viper GTS Launch Edition, I got #36. I traded in a 2010 ZR1 and am loving it. I'm not sure about pricing on these cars around the rest of the country but i was able to pick this up in Southern California for about $1,500 below MSRP, I actually saw a couple in SoCal listed above sticker. I went a little nuts modding my ZR1 so I'm going to hold off on any performance mods until I can do more research. So far i've tinted the windows and ordered some Lloyd's floor mats.

Congrats!!! Lets just say you did VERY well at $1,500 below MSRP if you got a fair price on your trade as well. Let us know how you like it compared to the ZR1. That will be interesting to hear.

the ZR1 is an awesome car but the interior, technology, handling, build quality, and looks are very behind this viper. I had the LPE 750 package and ARH long tube headers with high flow cats running 15 lbs of boost so the ZR1 was faster with 650 RWHP on 91 and 710 RWHP on 100 (i had two tunes i flashed back and fourth from). I'm sure with a couple of mods this car will be right up there and or faster than my old ZR1 especially with the massive 8.4 liter engine it has! this is my first Viper so forgive me if my questions sound dumb but is it true that i can add headers or ported heads without having to get a tune? Is it true I can use higher ocatne gas and the computer after a couple of run cycles the computer will detect the better fuel and add timing? I've been told that you can't tune the Gen IV or V computers but that the computers can map up and adjust air, fuel, & spark when performance mods are added or better fuel and that if you need more a more aggressive tune you can simply buy a new Mopar race computer and plug it in, is that true? that would save a lot of heart ache of not having to find a good tuner. Also how do you make the pictures in treads larger?

Congrats. MSRP is overrated. I just bought a new Maserati off the showroom floor for 13k below MSRP.

Can you post pics of the floor mats you added? Who made them? I've used Westwind in the past & was satisfied...

The Gen 4 and 5 cars cannot be custom tuned. Mopar Race PCM isn't available for Gen 5 yet. You can do simple mods, but none are currently available for the Gen 5. Soon there will be headers and cold air intake boxes for them. With all the bolt-ons and the Mopar PCM, these should easily clear 600 rwhp. Your old ZR1 with its mods will still be quicker, but it won't be as nice as the Viper or get the attention of a Viper.

The Mopar computer is close to release according to a post showing final testing. That pcm will allow a cat delete. Headers should be out in 90 days. You don't need the new pcm for headers. Headers and cat delete should add 60 hp.

Pcm tuning is not available at this time. You can do small changes to a/f by adding resistance to the IAT and ECT sensors.

Very well said about MSRP. It IS way overrated and buying should be negotiated up from invoice and not down from MSRP. New trucks are another example of often huge discounts off MSRP. Nice LE plus the colors. Congrats !!!!

they are lloyds with the viper logo. i will take pics and post soon
Yes this, and better braking with the old ZR1 too..
braking was good in the ZR1 (was a daily driver and so is the Viper) but hose carbon ceramic brakes squeaked all the time; after burnishing, long group Vette runs, the track, and especially driving around town. the brakes on the viper are very quite and seem to brake just fine. Also the pre 2012 ZR1's had looser tolerances on the rotors which lead to vibrations at high speeds.
Congrats on your Gen 5. I am out in Santee, where are you?
thanks, I'm in PB

Welcome to the club! Owners of the gen v seem to be pretty happy. I hope you can join us for some of our events. The SoCal club is pretty active, and a handful of guys go to the track on a regular basis.

If you haven't found it already, go to http://socalviper.com/

I look forward to meeting you.
