Hey guys and gals,

I'm in the market for a high quality radar detector. Any suggestion on make, model and place of purchase? Don't feel like getting any speeding tickets in the near future.

What!? You speed in a Viper? Don't you know that the speed limits are put there for a purpose? I guess you do - which is why you want to avoid the purpose of contributing the your city or state's general fund.

I've heard that the Valentine 1 is the best, but I don't use a radar detector and I haven't gotten a speeding ticket since I got rid of my Bearfinder radar detector over 10 years ago. Sharp eyes and common sense keeps me from helping out the general fund.

Don't speed way above the speed limit for a long time - do it in short bursts and then slow down to close to the speed limit. Speed around 10 MPH over the speed limit for long periods maximum. If you are speeding, the brakes on the Viper can slow your down fast enough so that radar can't lock on - but you have to see the policeman and react fast enough. Don't drive an Arrest-Me Red car. Only speed in safe driving conditions. And the other ususal stuff.

Check the archives. I have a Valentine one and am quite pleased. Somewhat pricey and not the smallest around but it is very effective. The arrow feature is great and it is programmable if you want to to change what bands it checks for.

Only sold direct, expensive but the best, once you use the arrows which tell you whether the radar/laser is in back, in front and or to the side and how many of them there are, you will never go back!

And after you do, go here:

Most that have tried both the ****** and the V1 tend to want the V1, if nothing else because of the directional arrows. Suffice it to say that radartest.com is just a tad bit biased. If you want an opinion of an UNPAID, unbiased source, try this:

CAR and DRIVER Magazine Radar Detector Test Results

And I would note that I don't even HAVE a radar detector right now, having sent my V1 off with the GTS in November...
