Spend a LOT of time searching this board. It will give you more information than you imagine. Pick a topic and keep searching. Try all sorts of different words on the topic.

Hardtop will fit with no mods.

Good choice on year.

Hey, and welcome!

Overall maintainence cheap.. oil changes just like every other car out there. Do the plugs and wires your self, maybe 100$ to do them both. Tires get expensive.. so go easy on the burnouts!

Do you have another car to drive back and forth to work?

Every year RT/10 has the ability to wear a hard top. A Mopar (factory) top requires the removal of the soft top support bar (2 bolts and 2 studs, screw in style) to be put on. The aftermarket (Autoform, Vmania, etc.) attach w/o removing the soft top bar (in the same fashion that the soft top does). Be aware that hard tops are expensive, try to find a car with one (most have them).

The 96 and older RT/10's have removable windows. Well.. if you want to call the 92-95 windows, they are more like curtains. Some years slide in and zip up, the 96 model slids in and thumb screws in. There are aftermarket windows (which I HIGHLY recommend). I have a set of Viper Mania which I can put on in about 5 seconds... slide them down into the door frame and push back so they catch the B-pillar. Simple

Best place to purchase a used viper is from a VCA member, or someone who is familiar with the cars. "exotic" dealers sometimes mis-represent a car and usually want more for them than the average Joe. There are some good deals on Ebay... just make SURE you ask someone to inspect the car (A VCA member or viper tech) before purchase. There are many little things that can add up to a serious headache in the future if you over look them (head gaskets, hood cracks, previous damage, etc.) There are some nice examples of 94/95 cars (sidepipe) for sale in the VCA classifieds right now... gives you an idea.

JZapp,

Welcome to the boards! Overall the 95 is a good year for the Gen I's, last year for side pipes.

Here are a few answers to your questions.

*As for maintenance, I would say it is middle of the road, not over the top providing you get a good car. Like any car luck plays a part of it and doing your homework on your purchase.
An oil change will cost you $55 to do it yourself and tires mount and balanced are around $1400 with a good deal. I have not had to many problems with my 95, and all the ones I have had so far (knock on wood) were before the warranty ran out.

*You can put a hardtop on any year viper whether it came with one from the factory or not. There are quite a few vendors out there that sale them, plus you can usually find used ones too. I would look to buy one with the top already.

*The original windows are zipper and canvas, kind of like a jeep. Junk in my opinion. Quite a few vendors also sale windows that look good, with hard glass. They more or less just slide in slots of the door and a screw holds them in.

*A good place to look for a used Viper is www.autotrader.com or the classifieds section of the forum.

Here is a picture to show you what the windows look like.

The classifieds here or Woodhouse Dodge might be able to find you the Viper you want.

Chuck Tator may also be able to find a Viper for you, but definitely call him for parts or advice.

Both are sponsors on this board.

Don't ever mention the words "Daily Driver", "Cupholder" or "GM" unless it's to do some serious slamming.

Good luck.
