They are pretty much on the mark.

FWIW the following are the known stats on the ZO6.

Engine size is 7.0 liters
500hp
475 ft.-lbs. of torque
275/35 18's at the front
325/30 19's at the rear

The wheels use a split spoke design virtually identical to that of the upcoming Ferrari F430. I do not believe they are runflats.

The interior is marginally different from the exterior with the difference largely in differently trimmed seats which now have the Z06 name in the seat backrest. Hard to tell more from the pictures I saw.

The exterior features the usual mesh grill but now adds wider fender flares and the obligatory fender badge. There is a hood scoop remarkably similar to that on the current SRT-10. Unconfirmed are reports of a dry-sump oiling system, carbon fiber body panels and more extensive use of magnesium.

I have pictures to back virtually all of this up but, regrettably, do not think it wise to post them. GM just had all the pictures pulled from every site that did so. I am disinclined to even e-mail them to anyone but, if you hurry, you may be able to find them on a few site that have not pulled them down yet. It will be a frontal shot of a yellow Z06 next to the C6-R. There is also an inside shot of the passenger seat and a terrific close up of the right front wheel showcasing huge drilled brakes.

See if this works for you guys but go quickly: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=965875

I know many here like to pick on GM and the Corvette but I would like to think that we can all agree that with this car GM should do AMERICA proud.

Not again.

Ohmygodthez06issoooocoolhowwillIeversleepatnight. Yawn.

I wonder if the Vette forum has more posts about the Viper than the Viper forum?

A car that has not even been built and they already have done a road test and timed it from 0-60. When they actually build and test one then lets compare the numbers of the Viper that is being built at that time. How many bold predictions have you read about what a car was going to be? How many of those were right? If they do step up the Vette then Dodge will do the same.

The article is using a photo-chop.

The pictures that I am seeing on the internet today are soooo much better.

Too bad no convertible Z06.

Can't read the weight....but what I CAN see is that it isn't under 3000 lbs. Looks like 3130. Ooooooh, the shaved 40 lbs. BFHD

The new C6 is drab looking and the new Z06 looks
just the same. I like the look of the C5 better, Chevy missed in the design department (car looks soo tiny).
Are they planning on having this car in the dealerships by next fall? Just want to be ready to see, about 10 of them
on any given day.

I saw FIVE C6 Corvettes on the road yesterday. And the hard part for the C6 Z06 is that (tiny scoops and bigger wheels aside) it looks essentially just like the regular C6 Corvette. Blending in was the ZR-1 Corvette's problem as well to being seen as a supercar, or truly unique.

The added performance will definitely help the Corvette, and I hope that the 2006 Viper adds a lot more HP to raise it up to the Ford GT's current 625HP power level.

Is 625hp the actual Ford GT rating? I assumed it was at least 600hp based on the performance figures.

I have both the GTS and a C4; brand loyalty aside, the C6 Z06 looks to be a better car than any Viper to date, but I am going to bet Dodge makes a surprise intorduction of the SRT/10 coupe. It's going to need a major diet and/or extra power, though, as the numbers on the Z06 ar currently 2900 lbs with hydroformed aluminum.

I love the competition; it improves both breeds. You Viper loyalist better not sit on your laurels, though, you may be in for a rude surprise and find yourself sounding like the Ferrari guys who rely on pure poseur factors like exclusivity.

Do you mean you saw FIVE C5s on the road yesterday or did you drive by a couple of Chevrolet dealerships? So far I have seen ONE C6 on the road ever. Of course that doesn't mean that they won't be around in significant #'s.

I think those Z06 pictures are very distinctive from the vanilla C6. I love the specs and #s but they still don't build it in convertible.

Not to worry though, I have a feeling Viper will be bumped up in HP and possibly go on a diet. They have already done it, they just have to sell it.

If it's true, GM did a good job with the new Z-06. I love my 2003 Viper, however, the Viper is becoming a more common sports car also. Dodge is making alot more Vipers than in the past and I don't feel that my car is that unique a car anymore. I have seen more Vipers driving around my neighborhood than new corvettes. I had a 2001 Red GTS with silver stripes and rarely saw another one driving around. The GTS gave me more of a feeling that I owned an exotic, a feeling I no longer have.
