NJ May End Auto Inspections | NBC Philadelphia

So apparently 28 other states have done this... How's that working out ?

They plan to just smog the cars every 2 years... So how do they save money ?

Guys with Garages and PIFs are claiming they lose out because of the lost business.

As much as I dislike inspection some people will not keep their cars safe... Oh but I guess Obama bought most of the Clunkers...LOL

Look at the License plate in the article... Very appropriate!

Funny,

I just got one of mine inspected yesterday in central NJ. It was a tough inspection, actually. My car had lots of miles, but I keep her in really good shape.

Took 25 minutes to do the inspection. 5 minutes for the smog test.

Right... Funny.

Somehow the end result will just be more cigarette and coffee breaks while loading up on pension bennies.

I remember about 6 years ago, you would have to wait in line for 4 hours to get the inspection before they privatized the deal. It was more cost effective to run your car down to the top of NJ, Salem County, and inspect it there rather than wait in line up north.

Actually I should correct myself. NJ did privatize the inspection and registration facilities and they have been markedly improved...

Eliminating the inspections won't increase the number of unsafe cars owned in Suburban NJ but I fear what will happen in the extreme urban and rural areas. Although it's not as much of an issue in the rural areas.

I think they just plan to have the police enforce the safety aspect which which will result in more summonses and ticket revenue... This is starting to make sense now...

Right... Funny.
