Nice article in the latest Viper magazine.
Cool garage and nice snake collection!
:headbang:

Thanks DETLEF..
How did your diffuser install go?

I would have replied sooner but I have been busy... in the garage.:D:D

This is the busiest time of year at my house. These photos are older but it looks just like this for the next 2-3 weeks...

Not to mention the other great thing about Spring. It's time for the SNAKES to come out of hibernation too.

Need more hours in the day...

"High maintenance" is an understatement...

You think some Viper owners are "anal"... You have no idea.

Example...
On a Pine Tree...
We count the number of needles on each branch. (That's right, every needle on every branch...:omg:) Then judge the strength of the tree. At that point, we use long twwezers to pluck the needles to get the same amount of needles on each branch.
Then you take off a few more needles on especially strong branches and leave a few extra needles on weak branches. The goal is overall "Balance" in both appearance and strength.

This done on every tree, twice a year. I won't even get started on the "wiring"...

But I love it...:D

Well, the rivet gun didn't arrive as expected so I am still waiting for it. Maybe next weekend for the diffuser blades.

That was a very cool article. I had wondered why the garage looks so long in the pictures, but it totally makes sense now. Good luck with the trees!

Mike I have to ask, what would a cheap bonsai cost me?

Hey Greg
They range anywhere from $25 to...

I saw trees at exhibits in Japan that were going for over 1 million dollar$. (US).
Japanese businessmen sometimes buy these trees as investments. They buy the tree. Hire one of the premier Bonsai artists to work on the tree for a couple of years. If the tree wins one of the top exhibits, you can add a zero to the sale price.
Once a tree wins a major exhibit, the millionaire collectors all want it.

However, doesn't matter how much the tree cost, forget or neglect to water it for just one day.... turns into a million dollar hat rack...:omg:

I can get you in touch with them if you are interested...;)

My last cactus died because I DID water it (I'm not lying--I guess I went a little overboard...). Maybe I should try bonsai?

$1 million is a bit out of my league, though...

You Bet. :2tu:
A buddy of mine has a Bonsai nursery not far from me. The STL club is, or is going to be contacting the KC club to come out for your track day. Gateway Int. (here in STL) wanted a crazy amount of money...
If it works out, I will be going. I can bring it out to you.
Maybe you could put a LI in my truck??? Trade????

Believe it or not, the money doesn't stop after you buy it. ..:omg:

Trees of this caliber require professional maintenance. Top professionals in Japan receive an average of about $700 per day. There are three basic times during the year when work is done on the trees. Min. of two days each visit. That's six days. Or $4200.00 in basic yearly maintenance. In addition, once every three years the trees need to be "wired" (Wrapping annealed copper wire around each branch and bending the branches into shape)

Next is the Bonsai ***. I have photos of "show" pots (100-300 yrs old) selling for $250,000.00 (US) no typo...either..:omg:

The stand, or Dai, (100- 300 yrs old also)iare priced similar to the ***...:omg:

The scroll. I have seen these for $500,000.00. (US)...:omg::omg::omg:

FWIW...
This is a tree that I entered in a competition in Dallas a couple of years
ago;

A professional spent two days wiring and pruning this tree getting it ready for competition...

The tree is 125+ years old.
The *** is 100 years old
The stand is 100+ years old
The scroll is 50-75 years old....

The pots that the trees are in have drainage holes in the bottom. We thread wire through these holes to tie the tree in the ***....
Most of the trees are set on benches or stands that will allow another wire to be threaded through. You attach this second wire to the existing wire that is holding the tree in the ***...

Simply Amazing!

Love your Japanese Maples in your yard. Our two here in Colorado are doing okay, but nothing like the ones I saw on the West Coast in Vancouver, BC. Ours in Colorado could double for a little Bonzai size.

All I can say Treesnake, is you have a lot more patience than I do. I can't get up the energy to prune our 65 ft Austrian Pines.
