I call up my dealer about front windshield. I had a small crack in it and it was bothering me so I decided to change it. I ask him if he can get me an original Mopar winshield for a GTS. He said I'm sorry we don't do that here..I was like what do you mean you don't do that here?? He stated that glass is send out. I called my local glass dealer and I purchased front windshield directly from Mopar for $325.00. He stated he would install it for an additional $100.00 which I agreed. Why wouldn't a dealership not know how to install a window or not purchase one for me when requested? I thought I was talking to Mr.Rogers when this guy was at other end of phone. Talk about being passive  ... Does anyone know other than Tators a local shop in the NYC or LI area??Chuck is great but a little far for windshield. He is doing my recall in May on the front frame welds...

I had a '02 F.E. ACR windshield replaced last fall....it also was farmed out to a glass shop.....let the professionals do the job...glass is their business !!! I was very happy with the job ....

Windshields are a structural component of many new cars. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you know what you are doing when you remove and install a windsheild and the dealers are not specialized enough to do so. There are various epoxies that must be used and mixed properly depending onthe glass and the mating surface, along with varying cure times, etc. This is an area where specialization is good. You may be better off going to a body shop that works with a glass company and does tons of windshield replacements than you would a dealer.

So, it looks like your dealer was leaving this to the best people for the job... Maybe they weren't so dumb after all.

Janni, I'm basically venting out on them..Not so much on glass but just the point that they truly have incompetent people working there. We have no other tech but Chuck in the area. Guys in Texas and California are very fortunate to have good tuners. We here in NY have zero. I have not met one good tuner in NY yet for a Viper...

You should be ecstatic that you have someone like Chuck Tator only about 45 minutes away from N.Y.C. Many Viper owners don't even have that! I live in Port Washington, L.I. and have been up to him several times. Stop complaining and be happy for what you have.

Adam

PS..In ref. to your post on glass most specialized tasks like glass are all farmed out to professionals. They have the experience and know how to do it right.

It has been my experience that many Dodge dealerships are not in a position to sell or service Vipers. It requires a certain amount of investment that they are not willing to make, they are not interested. For the most part Viper is a company within a larger company, a seperate division of DC.
The cars and the Viper community are better because of it.
